I think Alex Cintron gets the call up soon, but only to play along with Luis hernandez. Hernandez is batting .245, which isn't terribly bad. if he can bring it up 15 - 20 points, I think they'll be happy with that. Hernandez is a good defender, and I dont know how good Cintron is in the field. I think Cintron is batting about .310 right now.

Hard to tell at this point. Apparently Trembley told Hernandez that he has 12 days to prove he's an everyday starter at SS. So that could mean that if he doesn't perform well, that Eider Torres could start or it could mean that they would bring Cintron up to start.
The only knock on Cintron is that he doesn't have a great arm for a SS. He is better suited for 2nd base. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually did bring up Cintron to start at SS to see what he can do though. But I think that Torres also deserves a look at SS since he's put up pretty decent offensive numbers in the minors. I'm not sure how he is at the SS position though, I only saw him play a handful of times at Bowie.
It's incredible though how Millar as a first baseman was protrayed by analyists and on message boards, and yet he's probably saved a dozen of Mora's and Hernandez's errant throws. Still don't think he should be batting clean up though.

Ahh the shortstop question. We have a real problem there. In my mind, the problem is that we have 4 backups and no starter. If I had to rank them, I'd go Cintron, Hernandez, Torres, Fahey, but that's just my gut.

I still like Hernandez. Cintron hasn't been able to stick on any team so far in his career and has been hampered by injuries almost constantly. I think Torres might be an immediate answer to second base when Roberts is moved. He needs some time to get comfortable just as Luis has, but I think Luis will stick. Cintron will probably spend some time on our roster, but I still don't see him as being any kind of long term fixture here.
I guess we'll see how Luis responds to Trembley's comments. Something to keep an eye on for sure.
As for Loewen, I'm not ready to give up on him yet. Chances are he will need surgery for something because of Andrews, but I just think he tried to come back too soon and he was pushed too much too early. If he does need surgery again, he needs to be eased back, not forced back.

I think what makes me SO mad with the Loewen situation is WHY was he pushed to come back so quickly. This entire offseason was the whole "rebuilding" process.............we can rebuild, so we dont need to rush anybody this year. Yet Loewen came back earlier than expected, and never went down to the minors to work on things. What was it gonna prove if he came in at the beginning of the year and pitched awesome, or came back in August and September and pitched awesome.
If this is a serious injury, and it could have been avoided by taking their time, I will be very mad with him and the organization. There was NO NEED AT ALL to rush him!!

I agree. He didn't seem ready in the spring either. My question is how many options does Loewen have left? I've heard some say none and some say he has some left, so which is it? Does Loewen have options left and if so, how many? Anyone?

Hi Sess,
From Oriole Central: Going into the 2007 season, the Orioles had a decision to make. According to Loewen’s contract, he had to be on the major league roster at the start of the season or the Orioles would risk losing him. So ready or not, Loewen was on the major league staff for good. He would only start 6 games before missing the rest of the season for shoulder surgery. He would pitch to a 3.56 ERA, walk 26, and strikeout 22.
He was rushed into the bigs because of the previous front office’s poor roster management and by bad negotiation. The lack of the depth and injuries made them bring him up. Really, mid-season last season or this spring should have been his debut. But aside from their poor planning, they negotiated a contract to where he had to be on the big league roster at the start of last season or risk losing him. It was a stupid clause, but that’s what they did and here we are. You can blame the old front office for rushing him, but you can’t blame his lack of control all of them. They’re not pitching.

But you can blame the new front office for starting him this season. There would have been no problems sending him to the minors for a few months. Or even keeping him on the DL for a few extra months to make sure he was 100%.
I'm not sure about the rules, but I'm sure he could have went down to the minors at the beginning of this season since he was coming off a season long injury.
