Just wondering what y'all think will qualify as a successful 2008 season.

What I figure, the 5 toughest games are VT, @TT, @OU, MU and KU. If the Huskers take 2 of those 5 and win their other games, that puts them at 9-3, with a shot at ten wins in a decent bowl. To me, this would be a good year.

I don't have any of those games in the Win  column. If UNL can split the CU and KSU games and win the rest then they get at least a .500 season and are bowl bound!

Cy...what would be a successful season this year for the Clones?...just wondering.

To answer your question skerz, with 8 home games and only 4 away games (2 of them VERY winnable @k-state and Ia. State) I would consider a successful season 8-4 in light of what we just went through.  9-3 would be a little better than most would perceive or expect and 7-5 would be dissapointing but not completely unbearable.  6-6 or less to me would be a pretty big dissapointment considering the amount of talent on the program and a pretty favorable schedule.

Shlin,

I don't know, it's been so long I can't remember even what it feels like.

I'd guess a successful season is a couple wins more than it takes for a coach to be put on the hot seat or fired.  Consistent sub .500 obviously is not acceptable.

McCarney got fired after a 4 win season.

So for the Cyclones this year, 4 or 5  wins at ISU puts the coach on the hot seat so 6 or 7 would be successful this year.

UNL obviously has a higher expectation. Solich got fired for a 9 win regular season.  So you satisfied with 8  wins seems a little low. But it's right in line with the BC firing at 5 wins.

I wouldn't think Bo would get fired his first season if he only won 4 or 5 games. Tom knows that the program was left in shambles by Pederson and Callahan.  He will let Bo do his thing.  If you see what he and his staff are doing on the recruiting trail he has had more 4 and 5 star prospects looking at Nebraska than any time that Callahan was here.

Would Nebraska fans be happy with a 4 or 5 win season. No. I wouldn't but we have already experienced that.  But we do see that we have a coach that cares about the program and wants to be a part of getting it back on track.

People were saying Grohs would have been a better fit. Hmm.. I don't think he would. Even though Pellini was here 1 year he knew what the history of the program meant to the fans and the players that play for Nebraska.

See you on Saturdays as my tickets for this season is in the nosebleed section but it doesn't matter as Husker Blood runs through these veins to keep me warm.

Firing Solich was a big mistake that nebraska made. being he was a 9 game winner every year he should never have been fired. I think you can blame it on the spoiled cornhuskers, who were to use to losing only 1 to 2 at the most games per season.

I hope Bo does it right because firing Solich will really come back to haunt us.

So for the Cyclones this year, 4 or 5  wins at ISU puts the coach on the hot seat so 6 or 7 would be successful this year.

And do you think they can pull off 6-7 wins this year?

UNL obviously has a higher expectation. Solich got fired for a 9 win regular season.  So you satisfied with 8  wins seems a little low. But it's right in line with the BC firing at 5 wins.

Things can not always be looked at in "wins only".  The matter in which our losses came about last year is much much more important than the win and loss total.  We were embarassed in the losses....embarassed.  It's the same as the smoke and mirror 9-3 season that was Solich's last.  The 3 losses were embarassing blowouts and the wins weren't that impressive so personally i wasn't satisfied with that.  If we get 8  wins this year and we're competitive in most games yeah i'll be satisfied considering what we're coming off of.  With satisfaction however comes higher expectations and the following year 8 wins might not cut it as far as "satisfaction".

11 - 2.  Big XII Champs and  BCS Bowl Game.  Only ones I'm worried about are TT and OU back to back on the road.  The rest are realistically winnable games.

Call me an optimist.  :-)
