Whens that guy gonna come of the DL? It seems like he's making 10 millions bucks a year to recover from injury. Talk about a bad deal. But atleast he's not making 18 million and losing games for you like Barry Zito is with the Giants.

Dont expect to see Carl to do anything productive for the Yanks. I think he may be able to return after the All Star break but I highly doubt it. This guys career is more than likely over but at leased he got over on the yanks for 40 or 50 million.

Pavano should start making his rehab starts in July or August. If Joba stays in the pen and either Hughes, Kennedy, or Mussina struggle to the point where they're removed from the rotation, Pavano may start for us when he's ready to come back. But he will have to beat out Igawa, Rasner, and maybe even Horne. Either way, the Yankees are paying him a lot of money, so they will use him the second he's ready. The bull-pen is going to be thin, especially since Bruney is gone, so if he can come back and be an effective reliever then we'll probably see him there. So instead of paying him $18 million like the Giants are paying Zito, we'll be paying him $11 million this year to be a reliever.

I really doubt the Yankees will use Pavano the second he's ready. Like goat said, don't expect the guy to be pitching in pinstripes in '08. The Yankees have too many young arms who deserve a chance. What a colossal bust Pavano was....

Mark my words, Pavano will never throw another pitch in pinstripes. He had Tommy John surgery last year and players typically aren't at full strength for 18 months (look at Liriano). The Yankees are so fed up with Pavano that even if he is healthy they won't use him.
His contract will go down with Mike Hampton and Barry Zito, it seems....

Pavano will not throw again in Pinstripes. His contract won't go down anywhere near as bad as Hamptons or Zitos. Both these pitchers signed the biggest contracts for a pitcher at their respective times. Guys such as Ted Lilly and A.J Burnett signed for more money than the contract of Pavanos. Mike Hampton signed an 8 year deal and Zito a 7 year deal while Pavano only signed for 4. This was a horrible deal but nowhere near Hampton or Zito.

lets trade Zito for Pavano...I mean that Yanks do need the help in the bullpen...It makes sense right?

if i were the one making decisions, i would pitch Carl Pavano as soon as he was able to go. and if the Yankees were playing blowout games with him on the mound, i'd keep him on the mound for about 120 or so pitches every time. basically, i would use him to eat up innings (and save the bullpen) without regard to his future health to try and salvage some sort of value from that contract. as long as the yanks are definitely going to win, or definitely not going to win the game anyway, i would pitch him until his arm falls off.

^thats a good point. if are pitching is as garbage as it is now when he's back we might as well throw him out there and try to squeeze something out of 40 mil

The Yankees are screwed anyway with Pavano, but I would use him and see what happens. If he is decent when he comes back sign him and trade him. I'm not sure if the Yankees have an option year on his contract or not. There still might be some good to come out of Pavano, but it all depends when he gets healthy enough to pitch some minor league games. That should happen right after the All-Star break or in August.

I think he has some value, we do need starting pitching, but the Yankees are not happy with Pavano, I don't think they will show case him so he can get another contract after this year, not through the Yankees. I do agree with you that they should get some use out of him, and I do believe he can pitch if he is healthy, I mean the 2 or 3 games a year he pitches he looks like he has a good start for the season. His problem is he never pitches more then the 2 or 3. LOL
