I had Phillies season tickets for years and although Phillies fans don't boo as much as Muts fans I still think booing should be reserved for extreme situations towards the Phillies.  It's ok to boo the other team, especially the Muts and the umpires, especially Cowboy Joe West.

Tal, this isn't one of your brightest posts.

Do you think the people who post on this board represent the majority of Phillie fans, or the most obsessive fans like yourself? What does this post mean ?

And as far as Santana getting booed, that happens in all of the big cities who's owners shell out big $$$ to produce winners. When you pay a guy $750,000 per game to pitch nothing less than perfection is expected. When he's good, the fans are good and visa versa. The few exceptions to constant boos are the Utley's, Rollin's, Wright's, and Reyes's.

I seem to remember a few years of fans booing the crap out of "Pat the Bat" every time he strikes out. Adam Eaton and his big contract are constantly booed.  Everett was booed for the 1st 3 weeks.Feliz is booed. Jenkins is booed. I'm a season ticket holder whose at 50% of the games and can tell you it's no different in any big city. When you're player sucks in a game, he's booed.

LH,

No matter how you spin it, parse it the fact is Santana was BOOED in his FIRST outing at Shea.  His performance, while not great, was NOT bad enough to warrant how he was booed.  If you were as absolutely correct as your post appears to project, there would no discussion on The Fan or The Mets' board.

One of the BIGGEST misconceptions in sports is that a big-money player will perform PERFECTLY or get booed.  It really is NOT a case of a guy making big bucks per game, per inning, per out and per pitch.  Jim Thome came here and was NEVER booed, because he did not do a Barry Zito.  Row left here for SF money, and even he wasn't booed. Santana is being paid for how he does for the year, and not ONE game.  CY YOUNG, for NOT winning more games, would be booed at Shea w/ the way things are going in Queens.

First of all, Thome wasn't booed because he had a great year here.

I was at the game last night and can tell you Howard was booed quite loudly after his 1st at-bat (strikeout).. The fans around me were chanting "send him to the minors". Those same fans had a couple of things to say about Kendrick after he gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning Then Howard gets a double his next time up and those same fans are giving him a standing ovation.

Bottom line is when you're good you're cheered and when you're not you're booed. I don't care what city you live in. If you choose to make posts that NY is the king of the boo birds, try attending some Phillies games. That's why I responded to your meaningless thread.

LH,

Your point is that Thome didn't get booed because he had a great year.  Santana came into game 3, his first at Shea, w/ a 1.93 ERA and a 1-1 record.  Rynosaur got booed after 25% of the season had passed w/o progress.  Kendrick came into the game w/ a 4.93 ERA and gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning.

Nobody said NY equals the kings of booing, but that begs the question:  are some NY topics off limits outside of NY?  While Philly is a bash-all-you-want zone?

Tal, You've confused me with whatever you're trying to say. NY topics off limits ? Philly a bash all you want zone ? What the hell are you talking about ?

Bottom line is I can't remember someone being cheered when they do bad anywhere, not in NY, Philly, Camden Yards, Yankee Stadium, or beyond. I can however, remember many a player being booed in those same stadiums when they've not done well. If you get your rocks off comparing Philly fans and NY fans who boo when their players don't do well, you've been staying indoors for way too long..

Why don't you get off the NY bashing trip you've been on for so long. You're the only one on the Philly boards who's always bringing up the Mets. Try concentrating on the positive attributes the Phillies might have instead of dwelling about a team 90 miles away from you. I'm booing you right now, BOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
