I think the message from this draft was that , unless your a freak of nature , such as Adrian Peterson . STAY IN SCHOOL AND FINISH YOUR SR. YEAR !
If Kelly stayed one more season at OU he would have been a top 10 pick next year .

in most cases I think your right, but in Kelly's case I would have to disagree, simply because I dont think he could have draft much higher than a top 1st round if he stayed...simply because his measurables, they are not what were expected...and guys dont just pick up .45 seconds in a year. I think, given his knee issues and the fact that no WR went in the first round. And the fact that 8 WR's were taken before him, that he did the right thing....now Smith on the other hand made a HUGE mistake coming out.

I'm gonna agree with you on this one. Kelly, with terrific hands and great size could have been a middle first round guy if he would have stayed and polished his play during a senior year. Got his money a year early but cost himself a ton of cash.

Gonna throw in with Sooner and JoeG. There was a WR drafted in the 6th round. Similar in size and stats to Malcolm. Faster times. Much faster. Malcolm went were he did mostly because of reputation. If he had stayed another year, with more highlights and more stats, I think he would have gone 1st round.
Reggie is a perfect case. OU changed his position so many times while he was here that it probably hurt his draft value. If he had stayed another year, played his position solidly for another year, he might have improved his position.
STAY IN SCHOOL! Play longer. Polish your skills.

I agree that Kelly could have improved his stock some but this a weak WR class and at one point he was thought be the top WR in it. Lofton went higher than I thought we would. Smith definitely should have stayed and gotten stronger and better at CB.

I'm gonna agree with theres only 1 on Kelly...a 4.7 is a 4.7...the WR's were weak in this draft and he still was the 9th WR taken....just immagine a reciever heavy draft
.....good move for Lofton
.....bad move for Smith!

I agree with badazzsooner. It wouldn't have made a difference if Kelly stayed another year other than the fact the the Sooners could have used him. Kelly was already everyone's top receiver before his work outs. Another year does turn a 4.6 plus 40 into a 4.4 40.
Sometimes we get caught up in what we want (Sooners to do well) and think that it translates to whats best for the athletes. I think Lofton and Kelly made the right decisions. Smith on the other hand could have used another year.

My thinking is that it may have been good for OU that Kelly left. Granted he was talented, but there seemed to be some 'issues' that had to make you wonder. I'm wondering how some of the new guys might step up and become BETTER chemistry-wise for the Sooners.

Kelly always struck me as a guy who did NOT have "Championship" engraved on his forehead. Funny, but I think that came out in his draft. I think we move onward and upward. Part of our overrating just moved onward and out.

ok, I'll cube it.....
MK didn't have anywhere near as good of a year as one would have expected him too at the beginning of last season. Now I have to admit, there were times when he should have been the man and for whatever reason. his number wasn't called. Personally, I was disappointed that he wasn't thrown to more often. I dunno what Schmitty was thinking at times, but then, I ain't no CFB coach, either.....
MK has the potential to be a damn good pro and I hope he succeeds.

I totally agree with the thoughts on Kelly. Last year I was constantly disappointed with his performance and expected him to take over, which he never did. I am talking about the big games, sure he had a few good games against less than average opponents, but not so much in big games or games we really needed him. I think he lacks the "killer" instinct and the will to win no matter what. Coming from a team leader, that attitude can be a virus. Good luck in the NFL.
