FY 2006-07, in millions

  1. Texas $101.5
  2. Nebraska $71.1
  3. Oklahoma $69.5
  4. Texas A&M $69.4
  5. Kansas $65.2
  6. Texas Tech $53.6
  7. Missouri $48.6
  8. Kansas State $48.3
  9. Oklahoma State $46.7
  10. Colorado $42.4
  11. Baylor $40.5
  12. Iowa State $36.9

I sure hope we move up this list.  I would have thought Missouri and Colorado would be higher up the list them being dominant D1 schools in their state with large alumni and Kansas and Texas Tech a little lower.  One explanation is the Big 12 does not force schools to share TV revenue like other conferences.

Sorry about that mess guys.

Here's the link: http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1200&u_sid=10320041

Maybe the women's bowling team should wear short skirts and charge admission?  No way though I'm telling the women's rifle team what to wear.

That's Nebraska's athletic budget.  See how important it is to have a decent football program and attendence?  Hopefully the new facillities building program will improve our position.  I haven't seen ISU's athletic budget yet.

any wonder it is so hard to compete- is there a correlation ?   Some stat wiz needs to find the correlation between wins and dollars - i bet it's a pretty strong  r(squared)

Like it or not the Big 12 is the college version of MLB.  The haves and the have-nots.  Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska would never vote for revenue sharing just like the Red Sox and the Yankees would never give it to the Twins or Royals.

The cold hard fact is ISU will never have the income that the top programs do.  Every once and awhile a team might hit the jackpot with a great season but the bar is so much higher without the income.  I give them credit for trying with the funds they have.  New facilities are great but wins will put people in the stands.  Pollard knows that and if anyone can make it happen he will.

ISU would be better off from a revenue standpoint to be in the Big 11.  They share the revenue so schools like Iowa that are up and down still get their share thanks to Ohio State.

Hey Cyfan,

I managed to catch a few ISU games this last year.  Even though they finished 3-9, it looks like they were slowly improving towards the end of the season.  How do you see the Cyclones realistically finishing in the Big 12 (and ultimately) overall this upcoming season?

the list seems fitting to me

Texas is one of the best schools in the World, so once they got a taste of what it's like to be good, they are never ever going to stop shoving money into the athletics department

Nebraska and Oklahoma have two of the most winningist programs ever, so naturally they will always have the money to keep it that way

A&M probably has one of the largest fan bases in the nation

It kinda surprises me that Kansas comes next, but not completely.  I don't know if this includes Football and Basketball, but if it does include Basketball, there's your answer as to why they are 5.

as for the rest of it they seem fairly evenly matched in their amount of spending.  I would have though that Colorado is higher up, but not Mizzou.

As for Baylor, they are a private school, and they do not have a great athletic program going, especially in football, so they aren't gonna shove their money towards that

and I really don't know much about Iowa St., but it doesn't surprise me that ya'll are at the bottom of the list... I've never seen a threat team from ISU

btw... i like the, what i believe to be new logo!!  IMO it's way better

I am in agreement with Tejano, but being a lifelong ISU fan, I think we're going to moving up that list because I love what Pollard is doing with the athletic department.  I think theres no reason why ISU cant be up there with K-State and and Okie State within about 5-10 years, assuming we can start winning some meaningful games!
GO STATE!!!!!

With the new construction of luxury suites being the first phase of the Jack Trice remodel ISU is going to bring in more money this season. These luxury boxes are the cash cow for these stadiums. Next year it will be more reserved seats on the south end zone. That means no more  cheap hillside tickets at all on the south side of the field. Although I have never heard of a sellout of hillside tickets anyway. They will continue to sell those tickets until people are packed in like sardines. The state wide tour of all the big towns is also another way for Pollard to generate more interest in the Cyclones. He is trying to get the kids into it at a young age to make an army of young fans. Brilliant! We will be moving up in the money list in the next 2 seasons.
