WOW!!! Colt is a redskins from green and white to red and white. I think Colt has a better chance to make the team and even start. With the QB's in the team I think Colt will shine if any of the starters will get hurt. Colt will represent UH with a bang. Every team who passed on him will shake their heads HAHAHA.. Congrats to him on the NFL draft and to the rest of the UH players who sign deal with NFL teams. Now is the time to show that UH made him into a superstar QB. I just hope though that his hip will not cause his NFL dreams down becuase of the injury.
I think Colt is going into a pretty good situation in Washington. There is no real established starter there in front of him, and the team has said that they are willing to take a couple of years to develop him. Washington has a decent line, a running game, and decent recievers so if he came learn quickly I think he can make an impact in a couple of years.
By the way did anyone else see Jaws' tirade when washington drafted Colt? Man he said some idiotic things. They way he was acting it seemed like Colt slept with his wife the night before the draft or something.
LA this does give Colt a great opportunity and it does appear to be the right place at the right time. We all hope it works out that he starts.
Smots, I missed the tirade that Jaws had on Colt but I have to believe that Jaws did not watch Colt play other than the Sugar Bowl. If Colt does well than Jaws will be the first to admit that he was wrong, he is a straight up guy and I am certain that he was expressing his true feelings based on his knowledge of Colt's past mistakes at Colorado, even Colt said that he deserved to get drafted behind some high character QBs.
Take it all with a grain of salt. I wouldn't be surprised if Colt and Jaws become buddies later on. Colt has really turned his life around with the second chance at UH, he still needs to prove the doubters wrong, like Jaws. Now he is on center stage in the NFL and no one is going to hand him anything.
Not everyone is going to take June Jones word for it when he says how good Colt is (as a person of course). Be patient.
I think Colt witll shine in a Redskin Offense..... they seem to be a very mobile Offense. Not a lot of straight drop back and pass stuff... They run well and have a great TE game. from i have seen anyways, Colts Speed and agressiveness will play very well for him. an older QB like Farve or Bledsoe would not work near as well in there Run heavy O. He is Quick, and can read very well.
I think his Audible recog will gain him a starting role in the next year or two....
For now I'll give Jaws sometime to see if he will retract some of the things he's said if Colt does indeed turn out to be a decent NFL qb. I just found it surprising that someone with his football knowledge could be so off on assessing a player based on what they've done for their entire college career. Statements like, "he only throws to open recievers that's why his accuracy is so high" or "he was too inconsistent in college" Makes me think he didn't do his homework before the show. If that's the case he would have been better off just not saying anything, especially since it was the 6th round and not the 1st. I'm just interested to see what the all Colt's detractors will be saying if he wins the starting job in a few years and does well.
Hey-hay Smots 19;
Should Colt become a notable NFL quarterback, anyones "Wow, I was wrong on that one." will most likely come at us as newspaper retractions do, I do not expect to see any "Page 1" type take-backs, either here or on TV.
Some may go so far as to accept his accomplishment (should it come to be), but there won't be any admitting of past errors of judgment.
Smots 19 you are right on the money about Jaws, he should have kept mum on those inflammatory remarks. Remember, Jaws was wrong to say those things about Colt that are untrue, but they are only his opinions and opinions are not fact.
"he was too inconsistent in college"
This remark is asinine, real off mark. Colt was one of the most consistent college passers of all time. He even has the highest percentage of any college qb with his yardage and touchdowns. There are only a handful who have ever played the game that put up numbers at the same level. Obviously Jaws did not watch many Hawai'i games this season. Each time that I watch NFL Match Up Jaws talks about all the NFL game tape he watches each week; in another 3 months no one will remember all the things that Jaws said except for some die-hard UH fans like us.
I will not concern myself with any predictions that Jaws makes now or in the future; he is getting paid as a tv analyst not as an NFL scout.
Smots19, actually there are two established starters there in D.C., Campbell and Collins. Collins has 14 years experience and has won many games, likewise for Campbell who has 4 years experience. Campbell had impressive numbers until he was injured last year.
The starting job will be Campbell's, and he would have to lose it. He appears to have fully recovered from the knee operation. Colt still has to finish his rehab on his hip injury.
Look for Colt to make the team as a third string QB; yes the offense does favor Colt making the team and playing sooner. Expect Colt to see some playing time in the preseason, if he gets injured he will be moved to he scout team to make room for another veteran QB, there are plenty on the market with game winning experience.
If Colt shines in the preseason and the starter and 2nd stringer go down from injury then Colt will get his chance, but if Colt is QB and the Skins are losing every game Zorn will be under pressure to bring in another veteran and bench Colt.
Colt brings so many advantages to the Skins: maturity for a rookie, being in a passing / run and shoot offense, calling plays, playing injured while on an undefeated team, playing in big-time games, etc. A lot of Skin fans are not happy that CB is on the team but I think that he will make them happy that he is there in another year or two from now.
CB is a fast learner and it would not surprise me if he got a start halfway through the season if the team is on a losing streak. Like any horse race you have to go with the horses that you have, CB is Fusaichi Pegasus, like F. Pegasus he has a golden arm, many wins under his belt, and he has the speed and muscle to get the job done.
