beautiful....sweeping the sox at home and shutting all thier fans mouths....what a performnce by James Shields today coupled with ejacks game last night.....i thinks its safe to say our pitching is much improved this season.....and Evan Longoria doesnt look like hes struggling too much with big league pitching at this point....imagine what this line up will be like when aki and pena start heating up.....

What a game today, to be treated to back to back pitching duels was great, with the final today beckett vs shields, shields was almost unhittable today, I think he looked very awkward in the first but was able to settle down and paint a masterpiece. Great heads up by bartlet to score on the miss throw to put us on the board, and Evan almighty after being fooled all day stated loud and clear the jokes on you with the shot to left. Scary to think what this team is cabable od Buccs if AKI and Pena heat it up, whats your take on Gross?? What Ive seen I dont like him, slow on the ball, Ive heard hes got a rocket arm in right but if he cant put the bat on the ball and have no speed, I think we could put hinske in right and let Gomes hit in the DH. I havent passed judgement on Gross yet, but he needs to start hitting.

This is the first game where Shields had absolutely everything clicking.  Pure dominance.  This was a great series, both results and entertainment.  Those were three really fun games to watch.  I can't wait to see if the Rays continue the hot play on the road, especially at Fenway.

joe maddon hates Jonny Gomes.....he also had a dislike for Jorge Cantu and after hitting thirty homers and driving in 120 runs he was gone in a year....this team isnt winning because of maddon its winning in spite of him....gross is a better defensive outfielder than gomes or hinske but as far as his hitting goes he makes Jason Bartlett look like ty cobb.....but for some reason joe maddon cant just put hinske in right and leave him there...the line up is much better with hinske in right and gomes at dh...maybe use gross as a spot starter in right...but maddon doesnt let hinske play against lefties...which is dumb...so everytime a southpaw is on the mound the line up goes to musical chairs.....pick a line up and stick with it joe.....

buccs i think your being a little too harsh on Joe, while both of us agree that he has had strange decisions in the past, we had absolutely no chance at doing anything in the past, Cantu was a roids guy anyway which seems pretty obvious.  Gross has a good eye, which is something that this team needs.  Let Gross have time to play here in Tampa which is completely different surroundings and see if he produces, if he doesn't then take him out of the lineup.  But Jonny Gomes against Josh Beckett is laughable, Gomes can barely catch up to a 92 MPH fastball, nevermind Beckett's moving 95-96.  Gomes should play mainly against lefties and get some at bats against righties.  Give them all a chance in RF as that is the only position not settled yet, when Floyd gets back you could see Gross sent down anyway, so Maddon probably wants to see what he has before the time Floyd gets back which apparently is going to be very soon.

Whatever happens, do not let Gomes start in RF, he is one of the worst fielders I have ever seen.

Just because your not mentioned in the Mitchell Report doesn't mean you are definetly clean... the guy had one very good year and couldn't do anything since, he has started off well, but there has to be some suspicion when he hits 30 HR's one year and isn't even good enough to play on a Major League team 2 years later.  And yes I know he was injured, but you don't just fall like he did, there's a lot of suspicion around players like him, he just doesn't get noticed because he played for a team like Tampa and only had one good year.

nynetb24, I would never suggest to put Gomes in RF, we all know that he cant feild, hell he has problems just tracking the ball, forget about running one of them down, and Ive seen his arm, its about on level with Damons. Flloyd should be coming back soon, and I agree he will inherit the job in right. But I think we waste too much right now by leaving a potential big bat on the bench, when Gross is doing nothing. Henski is hitting very well, and Id hate to see him out of the lineup, Gomes does have trouble when the ball gets above 92, but when he does get around on it it goes somewhere, maybe Im being too hard on Gross, but Gomes couldnt have done any worse today then him, or in the series for that matter, maybe it will take Gross some time to aclimate to florida, all Im saying is I think we're a better lineup with hinski in Right and Gomes DH. at this point anyway.

I understand all of your points kurbmedic, but listen to what I am saying. Maddon has already seen what Haynes, Hinske and Gomes have to offer.  When Floyd comes off the DL, somebody has to be optioned to Durham or clear waivers, so in order to make his decision Maddon needs to see what Gross has to offer, that is why he is playing so much and probably will get the majority of the playing time until Floyd gets back which might be as early as when they return from this road trip they are going on.&n
