Our biggest need was OL and DL.  They didn't draft any DL and a cripple who is lazy for the OL.  No cornerbacks either.  They drafted two linebackers after using our first two picks last year on linebackers.  Another back up QB like Omar Jacobs a couple years ago who will not make the team.

Anyone could have made the first two picks.  The players fell to them.  The rest of the draft was a typical Colbert draft.  IT STUNK.

why so negative?? notice guys like you and the The Thruth NEVER have anything good to say bout the Steelers.. We picked two Lb again.. well we were short on depth at lb.. pluss lb do play ST which also need help on the team.. Dixon is far better then Jacobs.. and who's to say he is a Qb for us.. could be a tweener wr/ rb (kick returne?) r and 3rd qb.. Have a drink, smoke a bowl, get laid... anything to help you loosen up...

the whole "sky is falling" routine is getting old..

F-of-Twins,

You are right on the Money... I was a little perplex with the Mendenhall pick but really liked the Sweed one yesterday - today looks pretty good until you get to the six..  But here is the thing - the draft is a crap shoot.. Who is to say the Humpal wont become a starter? NO ONE on this board knows for sure.. No one..    My feeling is we got great value at our picks - looks like we got 3 bonified 1st round picks in this draft - that rates out pretty high... time will tell.

enjoy,

bb

How can you say that Colbert;s drafts stink? The Steelers have won a superbowl in recent years and I am pretty sure that those players mainly came through the draft. The Steelers are good year in and year out and they do not sign many free agents. I am fine with this draft. There were no linemen available with our picks that would have started. Why take a player too early just for the sake of drafting a lineman? The first two picks were no brainers, then after that we were only looking at depth. If Hartwig pans out we are set on the line. I like Marvel Smith, Kemoeatu, Harwig, Simmons, and then probably another battle between Colon and Starks. That leaves Mahan in reserve for guard and center. I know it seems like we really need help, but that is not a bad starting offensive line. If they can stay healthy I think they will have a good year.

You cant compare the last two drafts with the previous 13 ( ??) because Bill wasn"t there to influence colberts decisions. I for one am not happy with the second day, accept the last pick ,no loss if he cant cut it.

ur an idiot, we needed line ill give u that.  But i really liked dennis dixon pick, and the offensive line man from texas wasn't bad either.  Plus after the first two picks how can u say that we drafted bad, those two guys are gonna be stars.  and u  must forget about a guy colbert drafted named Ben Rothlesberger

F O T:

Thanks for calling me out.

Not true.  I have plenty of good to say about the Steelers.  Just not Colberts managment.  Since he has come on board he has neglected the Offensive and Defensive Lines and we are about to reap what he has been sowing.  Let's take a look at our line closely:

LT - coming off back surgery going to be backed up by a guy who couldn't cut it at RT and has no footwork

LG - we don't know what we have Kemo hasn't had a real look yet and his competition Mahan was a joke at C

C - Free agent signing that we hope can cut it (sounds like the same spot we were in last year at this time and we know how that worked out)

RG - a guy who was a #1 pick but hasn't been the same since his ACL tear and Diabetes diagnosis

RT -  a guard playing T because the former RT was a waist bender (with no feet)  not a knee bender

on Defense

RE - a 30 year old who gets collapsed against the run and who's M.O. was being a good pass rusher (he had 1 sack last yr.)

NT - 31 year old pro bowler who isn't getting any younger but is getting rounder.  How long can the knees hold up carring that kind of weight?  Remember Joel Steed!

LE - 32 year old who is the best of the bunch coming off a bicep tear and I don't have to mention what happened to the #1 defense after he got hurt.

Plenty of issues with the 8 positions and no answers this weekend.

Steelers fan Ben:

Here's the data to back up the fact that Colbert isn't building with the draft.

Relax smcndfan. Colbert doesn't make the right decisions all the time; but this was far from a bad draft. We have a good grade of players coming to play for us. Colbert didn't draft base on the name in the draft, he drafted based on NEED. We needed a back to compliment Willie. Why not get the back who runs the hardest? We need a tall receiver. Why not get a 6'4 guy like Sweed? We need someone to eventually replace Harrison. Why not get Davis who had about 25 sacks in 2 years? We needed a OL. So we got Hills. We needed someone in the secondary. It wasn't a priority, so we got Mundy. We need someone to help on ST, so we got Humpal. And every draft should have a "specialty" player. So why not get one of the more talented ones in Dixon? It wasn't a bad draft my friend. We just have to make sure of that.
