The Falcons maybe got what they believe to be their franchise quarterback, but they missed out on a franchise tackle.

I live in Atlanta so I hear alot about how Matt Ryan will look great on a billboard on I-85, but Glen Dorsey could have been the face of this franchise.

Not to mention Brohm and Henne were both available in the 2nd round. If the falcons had not made one trade they could have gotten Glen Dorsey, Devin Thomas, Kellen Davis, Curtis Lofton, and John David Booty in the 3rd. Or they could have taken Henne or Brohm rather than Davis, Thomas, or Lofton.

Instead they are overpaying for the 5th or 6th best tackle in the draft and a quarterback who is totally unproven.

I mean can you even play Matt Ryan this year, with that awful team around him?

I think passing on Dorsey for Ryan will be as bad a decision as pssing on Chris Paul for Marvin Williams.

Your analysis of the Falcons draft makes many good points....

I think the main reason why they took Ryan was a much about putting a new face on the franchise as it was about football ability....the Falcons are looking for the anti-Vick

This being said, taking Dorsey would have been the right pick....despite the injury concerns, Dorsey is a guy who was dominant in the SEC.....he was a one-man wrecking crew....A guy like this becomes the anchor of a defense.....

As a result of the Falcons selecting Ryan, the Jared Allen trade + the trade to move up to #15, the Chiefs must extremely happy after day one, why?:

  • They did not have to overpay for Allen's services
  • Got  DT G.Dorsey (considered by many to be the draft's top talent)
  • Landed hyper-talented OT/OG B.Albert
  • Also landed a CB from a stingy defensive in Brandon Flowers

since when is the face of a franchise a defensive tackle? pretty much never.
