This is exactly why we shouldnt have stripped Nolan of his GM responsibilty this is the first time in the Nolan era that I believe we will have a bad draft

We were 25th in total defense. We don't need a lot of improvement? Who are you watching? The D Line is where it starts with getting push and getting pressure on the QB. If you don't have the bodies to do it, the opposing QB is going to have time to pick your secondary apart, even if we have Nate Clements, Harris and Lewis back there making plays. Balmer will prove to be a valuable pick

I know we were 25th in defense, but dang we were dead last in offense. What sense does it make to go out ,and get a defensive player when the offense needs all the help? Not to much to me.

All of these receivers are similar in talent. No one receiver was a big stand out in college football this year. When I first saw the first round draft pick I was a little curious to but I have been thinking about it since then. I first thought we should have 2 early second round draft picks so we could get one of these top receivers but then I realized the Mario Manningham from Michigan will not be taken for a while. After thinking about this I was fine with our first round selection. I also think the offensive linemen that we took in the second round we took was a very smart choice seeing that he can play both guards and right tackle.

The D-line and O-line is where we need to get better. It always starts with the guys up front. Both Balmer and Rachel are studs that can provide instant support. With Baas out (for who knows how long) these were great picks.

I agree.  Fans don't like to see linemen get drafted, but both of our lines were our weakest positions, as far as both depth and quality.  I don't know if either of these guys will be great, but what we needed was starters, and I think that we got them.

If we had picked a WR, I believe that we would not have seen them until next year.  I don't think any of the WRs this year are capable of beating out Bruce/Johnson/Battle for a starting position (except DeSean Jackson would have been a starting KR/PT).  We haven't even really seen Jason Hill yet.  So please relax.  I think with the rest of our picks, we will be able to take the best available, probably focusing on, yes, WR, but I would like to see an OT and FS.

Also, keep in mind that Takeo Spike is still hanging out until after the draft, and he may be able to help us out at OLB.

WE DONT NEED A WR!!!!!!! We just signed two very good WR in Bruce and Bryant Johnon. Why waste a top pick on one of these sorry @ss receivers? none of these guys are any good and thats why they have all dropped so far. games are won and lost on the Lines, and we just helped out both our offensive and defensive lines. good solid picks. not sexy, but this will make us a better TEAM!

We do need the help in the offensive line, and i like the pick.....but i think it would have been great to see cal's DeShawn Jackson. Such an explosive player all around. But you gotta back the team whatever they do! GO NINERS!!!

saying that we don't need help with the lines is something i don't agree with.

with baas hurt and Larry Allen still up in the air (as well as aging) drafting a guard for depth, that can play multiple positions on the line was a good safe pick.

thinking about the WR situation, we're not set but it's not a need. lelie and hill still have a chance to show what they got, which i think Lelie could be good if he is used correctly...or just used.

meanwhile with the Oline, we have 2 backups that haven't played in the nfl for a year.

i think the Dline needed that first round pick as there's been a bit of struggle at the NT position. i think it was said that sopoaga was pretty good at DE which is where he'll most likely see time if this first balmer can perform his duties.

We ABSOLUTELY made the correct draft picks.  Understand, our DL and OL were our biggest weaknesses.  Larry Allen is AWOL and we lost 2 productive DL.  We NEED those positions.  WR?  Don't you think with our new OC we would have drafted one of those available guys if he REALLY thought he had to have them.  Need I remind everyone we drafted Jason Hill last season.  How many young speedy receivers do we need?  Some of them will need to start before you go taking chances on 2nd round receivers.  Don't forget New Orleans grabbed a pretty good receiver in the 7th round 2 years ago.  We can find another WR down the road in rounds 3-7.  I would like to see a skill guy come in round 3, but we'll see.

I liked it.  Yeah they are not the star names but we need to build our team on the lines.  We have one of the best running backs in the game however if there is no blocking it doesnt mean anything.  Why go after a wideout when we need players to produce NOW?  Most wideouts take 3 -4 years to fully develop.  By the time that happens then that player wants major money or to be traded.   Also our superstar linebacker needs pressure and some beef up front to fully produce.  We also invested a ton in Nate Clements and yes he is one of the best cover corners in the league however if you dont get pressure the wideout will eventually break free.  Also with Alex Smith (still very very young) if you give him time he will eventually produce.  Our wideouts are fine I wouldnt draft any of them this year.   I love that we have two good lineman with our 1st 2 picks.  Hell I would go lineman every pick.

I think the 49ers needed help on both O & D-line but we also need a reciever that can stretch the field and they are moving off the board rapidly now

Our first two selections definetely are not sexy picks, but we are filling area's of need....Do we need a young and explosive WR...Yes, but we definetely had to address our OL with the 2nd pick. Remember we allowed 55 sacks last year. It doesn't matter how many weapons you have on the field, if your QB is on his back a majority of the time then it doesn't matter who is playing receiver. Our WR corps are still solid with Bruce, Johnson, Battle, and Hill. Overall I like the picks, I'd like to see another OL taken in the third as well, or Booty is a possibility as well

Told ya we wouldn't go WR:-)  None of the WRs were really that good and all of them were a gamble.  At best, you're getting a #2 WR out of this draft and we have several #2 WRs already on the team.

My biggest dissappointment was that we weren't able to get a top Olineman....hopefully the guard we got will play better than he graded, but I was hoping for one of the better tackles, but they went early:-(
