Wow.....kind of a surprise that Macklin is a goner. This was finally gonna be his year. Oh well. I dont think he was made for the offensive sets that JT3 runs. And frankly with Monroe and Sims (who is a beast) coming in, I think the Hoyas will be fine. Any thoughts?
This is news to me, Saxaphone. Where is he transferring to? He never really lived up to his athleticism and he has hands of stone, but he's a fun kid to watch and he's very talented. I think he would've had a good year this season, and frankly I think this hurts us a little bit when it comes to frontcourt depth. Not overly worried, but sorry to see him go.
where is he going to?? He showed some glimpses that he could be pretty good in the middle, ecspecially when he filled in for Hibert. I think he would have had a good year, he was more athletic than Hibert wasjust didnt have the soft touch like Hibert did. If he is in fact gone, he will be missed.
It is definite. There is a press release on the official Gtown website. Doesnt say where he is going. The wording is so curt, it makes me think it was not a pleasant conversation. While he never quite lived up to the hype, I still liked the kid. Now, not so much.
It does hurt depth. But frankly, not sure he would have started. Sapp, Freeman, Summers, Monroe, and either Sims or maybe even Chris Wright. Go small and uptempo. Gotta see if Braswell shows up on campus.
Even he isn't quite sure where he is going to transfer. This follows in line with other Georgetown players who left to go to lesser schools when the realized they were not going to get much playing time. Marc Egerson, Tay Spann and Thornton all ring a bell. Macklin never developed quite the way we wanted, and the writing was on the wall. Georgetown will likely play a three guard offense next year (Chris Wright, Jesse Sapp and Austin Freeman) while having DaJuan Summers start at 4 and rotating Chris Braswell, Henry Sims, and Greg Monroe into the game. The team will also have Mescheriakov back from his red shirt, and the word is that he is a sharpshooter. Macklin would have had to compete for time with three guys who are younger and possibly more skilled. The team shouldn't suffer too much by having fewer big men on the floor, as Summers evidenced his strong rebounding ability toward the end of the season.
I hope the best for Macklin. I always wanted him to play big and be a great Hoyas center, but sometimes the cards just don't fall that way.
BTW, Georgetown is in the Old Spice Classic next year. Should be some great competition.
From what I heard he was actually slated to start although with Sims/Monroe coming in I guess he felt he would never get the opportunity to star like he felt he should have coming into school. Remember this kid was a McDonald All American and ranked number 12 over all in his recruiting year. He was actually thinking about making the jump to the NBA after high school but the new rule kept him from doing that. So perhaps he thinks being a junior and averaging 3 points a game is a long way to fall from the potential he had. Lets hope he has success in Gainsville (where at least he'll have a more up tempo game) and lets also hope Monroe and Sims benefit from more playing time earlier.
Kind of a shocker from as an outsider (i.e., not in the locker room) but we never knew what was going on inside the locker room and the classroom. Regardless, I will Macklin and Rivers the best and thank them for their time on the court. However, as a Hoya living in Florida, I wish Macklin success individually but the Gators not as much success. GO HOYAS!
