I half agree with both of you. No manager should have to play a guy because of the money he makes. That said, Torre clearly has to play Nomar at third. The other guy is named DeWitt and he should probably be in AA for a couple more years.
As for Jones, I think his reputation is why Torre continues to play him, not the money. The season is still early and I think everyone in the Dodgers' brass is kind of like, "Well, let's let him try to work out of this slump."
I'm not so sure it's a slump though and how long do you wait???
