manny, you live in NC, right? i do too, but i can't figure this out. you're dead on with all the other points, so what about these?Man I don't know. There are guys that need trucks for their job or hobby. But then there are the guys you are talking about. They just have a truck to have a truck. They freak out if the bed gets dirty. Isn't that why you have a truck? To put stuff in the back?

They freak out if the bed gets dirty. Isn't that why you have a truck? To put stuff in the back?exactly ! These are the people who you can blame for high gas prices. Its funny. A couple streets over from my street is Zero Lot Housing. The whole street is nothing but houses with a driveway. Maybe one strip of grass in between houses. However, I would say in 70% of the driveways is a large SUV or Pickup truck. F150's, F-250's, Expeditions, Suburbans, Land Rovers, Tundra's so on and so on. Vehicles that take up the entire drive way. LOL...I dont think a huge pickup truck is needed when you live in zero lot housing. The influx of these vehicles is one of the main contributers in gas prices. They guzzle it up so fast.

How about we get rid of NASCAR. Think of the gas that would be saved. Gas prices would go down to less than a buck a gallon. Let the drivers in nascar drive electric cars. Make all the cars the same. The individual driver's skills will still be the same, just less gas wasted.

Gas prices are a joke.
I remember when it ran over $2.00 then to $2.50 and everybody (including me) were all b!tchin'...I told my friend that I bet it would get up to $3.50 or $4.00 before anybody that could....would do anything about it.
Then somehow it will probably fall back down to $2.50 again and everybody will think it's the best thing since thong bikinis and wonder "WOW...look how cheap gas is now!!".
And in reality it still will be too freakin' high...it's just perception and the gas companies are playin' us.

Just doesn't sound like it will sell, may just be me.

Something called K4 gave me 1's for this thread. It just makes me wonder which kind of loser K4 is. The rice burner with fart pipes loser, or the wannabe OG old school Caddy diving loser.

Perhaps he's the loser that never paid for a thing in his life and relies on his parents to look so cool.

Ever since I became disabled and unable to drive, we have certainly curtailed our fuel consumption, because my wife would rather eat cereal with water than make a trip into town. Aside from her, any other transportation I get is bonus, unless I kick in for gas out of a misplaced sense of decency.
I know I will probably piss some people off with this, but here goes. Does it seem to anyone that auto racing is kinda like thumbing our collective noses at fuel costs, and petroleum's eventual scarcity? It seems similar to having a chugging contest with your canteens on a 5 day desert hike, but thats just me. There are other wastes, plenty of others, but that one just struck me the other day as being pretty high profile.
On the cool side of things, my son has to do what is called a Senior Mastery Project over the summer and next year as a graduation requirement at his High School, a sort of Master's Thesis, if you will. ( I may have posted this before, but anyway) He has chosen to convert an early 80s Mercedes Diesel to Run Vegetable Oil. We are chipping in for the car with part of our tax refund, and "economic stimulus package", A California Based Company is donating the veggie oil conversion kit, and telephone and email support, and he has secured 5 local restaurants to obtain waste oil from. Its a large project, and I am proud of his initiative. It wont hurt his college resume' a bit either. I think it proves that people can get intelligent things done faster than corporations or government.

The money spent on fuel for nascar is spent by the oil company. The fuel used is gratis, and Sunoco actually pays nascar a fee to say that they are the official fuel of nascar. It's called capitalism.

I assume/hope that you people aren't serious about your suggestions to halt NASCAR because it's waisting gasoline. Since the U.S. uses somewhere between 125-150 BILLION gallons (depending on which estimate you go by) of gasoline every year, stopping all NASCAR races wouldn't make a bit of difference.
Things that would make a difference - more fuel efficient vehicles, improved public transportation, carpooling, increased telecommuting, etc.
I think it's funny to hear people complain so much about the price of gas, while at the same time refusing to change their habits to reduce their use.
