5Time , if your pass D was 5th in the nation, which i very much doubt, then Cullen Harper is a Heisman contender because on that last drive you got picked apart by him. Also, James and CJ have both shredded that punka$# defense of Spurriers 3 years in a row, with1 of em' going over 100 yds. each of the last 3 games vs. USC.
Special teams ? ain't nothing special about Clemsons special teams (we have been horrible for a few years now ) but the contributing factor in that game is that a 3rd string walk-on Tiger WR made it past your first string ST blocking scheme and did what he did. The other blocked punt was what I call a "laugher" because your team allowed the exact mistake in not blocking out. It was elementary, really.
you are right about the offense not doing much though, of course you have to take away at least 2 offensive series because of the blocked punts, oh and the fact that Spurrier always throws 3 yd. out patterns keeping the clock running while he tries to keep his miserably bad defenses from getting embarassed.
Duggy, we're all right here. No need for shouting.
I will say this: Cullen Harper is a much better qb than most Clemson fans give him credit for (though a Heisman candidate he is not). But to say he picked apart our pass defense? Get real! He threw the same slant pattern to the same receiver against a third string corner. You took advantage of our injuries, a glimmer of good coaching. Maybe there's some hope for Tommy yet. But getting tunnel vision, throwing to the same receiver on the same pass pattern three or four times is not shredding or even picking apart a pass defense. Learn your terms, kid, learn your terms.
The best player on that field will be back again for a fourth time, and that's Kenny McKinley. Everyone knew we had one receiver last year, and everyone knew our o-line was about as impenetrable as a shattered glass wall, and yet he still caught TD passes of 40 and 19 yards, and finished with 8 catches for 125 yards. That's what you call heart, desire, fight, and talent all wrapped up in what Tommy Bowden likes to call a tight package.
As a side note, apparently Kenny is interning with an Architect's office this summer, and was at our office the other day. Sadly, I was out of town. According to my boss, a nice humble kid whom you'd never know what he's capable of on the football field just by looking at him.
Duggy, we're all right here. No need for shouting.
you are right,COCKS, but did you read that guy's post ? Retarded.
and what , pray tell, were you doing lining your 3rd string db against a talented 6'5" starter like Kelly ? Anyhow, I agree that Cullen should not be a heisman contender, though he should be the top QB this fall in our little Pop Warner league.
Agree with ya on the McKinley issue, he is a fine reciever and he works hard every play.
While on the subject of passing , what is Stevo gonna do with the signal callers he has back? Garcia is more talented than the other 2, but is a lowbrow, Smelley has talent and some experience but nobody in Cola seems too confident in him, and Beecher looks like the guy huh? Do Tell ....

I kinda already said why the third stringer was out there. The db's were way overused last year, being brought up to within 5 to 10 yards of the line to try and slow down the run stopping problem. We've got an awesome group of db's, but daggum, they can't play all 11 positions on the field.

We assume Garcia is better than the other two, as he couldn't be much worse. But the truth is we still haven't even seen the kid practice against college players. IMO, he needs to prove he can stay out of trouble for a whole year before being given the chance for the starting job. And sheesh, a fourth strike and he's gone. (personally, I would've stopped at three, but apparently Steve is willing to give him a fourth chance)
I think either one of Beecher or Smelley could be at least an average college qb if the O-line would give them at least three seconds in the pocket. Five to seven seconds would be optimal, but three seconds, is that too much to ask? I mean, that's not even asking them to block. You can give the qb three seconds just by standing in some guy's way. If they're not going to block, at least stand in somebody's way; that's all I'm asking. But, as Spurrier still refuses to part ways with his over-the-hill o-line coaching friend, I highly doubt the o-line will be any better than it has been the past three years. Three years of bad o-lines is a coaching issue, not a players issue.
As for defense, I like what I'm hearing. I actually think we have the potential to go from SEC worst run defense to SEC best run defense with the personnel moves that have been made. Moving Norwood to linebacker is a great move. Jasper back in the middle is awsome. Mathews, Adjiboye, and Peppers along the line sounds extremely imposing. Add to that our aforementioned amazing d-backs (who have a lot more depth this year), and there's not a single game we can't be in if we can get at least an average effort out of our offense.
I'd be drooling over this season if I didn't know with a surety from the spring game that our offense is still a piece of crap, with no real hope of improving in the fall.
now we are getting somewhere. I was wondering when those 3 good D line recruits were gonna get it going. Talking about Mathews, Adjiboye and that other North Carolina kid (name escapes me) they signed in 07'.
I have a guy on my boat who is a Quasi football fan from Tampa. He said that Garcia was one of the best high school qb's in florida football history. Granted he thinks you kick a touchdown, but he knows who Garcia is from the headlines down there.
The d-line is stacked with names: Ajiboye, Doughty, Geathers, Hall, Mathews, and Pepper. Now, if they could ever get to practice against guys who actually block, they might could just be amazing.
We all know that every season, Clemson loses to AT LEAST one crappy team. who's it gonna be?
scgamecocks90, you totally forgot to add yourselves to that list of yours, after all, we are supposed to be voting on "crappy" teams , aren't we?
I would add you to the list so you could vote for yourselves, but there really is NO chance in hell that you beat us, so i am electing to sit this poll out on the ground that it is about stupid.
no chance? i think you're wrong. Clemson no longer kills USC year after year. y'all barely win and we get a win in there sometimes. USC can and does hang with clemson.
True be that, and i was going to point out how much more talented we are than ya'll but then i remembered the home loss to Vandy and thought about how that is the same sort of scenario and i should just shut up because that particular game shows that any bunch of hacks can hand a much better team a loss at home at any time....
