Arguing top 25 football programs of all time. Most lists are reasonable with OU in the top 5 but we sure could use a few stat men to drop some knowledge.

one could drop all the stats one could and most of the yokels would just ignore them. I mean anybody who ranks PSU anywhere near OU is focking nutz and I saw at least one who had them at #7 or so and OU right behind them.

OU behind PSU?

that is just plain ludicrous.

I didn't even go any farther at point.... and lets face it, the way OU has performed in recent bowl games, many have a negative opinion of the program, anyway.

been there and done that.

that thread is pretty damn funny. it has pretty much degenerated into an argument about which MNCs are relevant and which are not. Most people think of the old AP and UPI. One being the coaches and the other being the sportwriters trophies. Some schools will claim every declaration under the sun including those awarded by Mad Magazine. Can't remember the exact number, but if OU used the same criteria as some schools do, you could count 19 or more MNCs for OU.

As it is, OU counts only AP and UPI, pre BCS.

Some of dem boyz is full of you know what.....

Hey wheat, don't discount the Mad Magazine poll. It has been respected for years.

If nothing else, I've gained some respect for the Ivy league schools by reading the thread. It went from none to "oh look there it is".

In reading lots of the messages in the main page thread.  It reminds me of how typical NCAA football, the polls & especially the media are.  Small population State's teams have always gotten beatup by the press.  Its kind of like the year Terry Bowdens Auburn team was the only team to go undefeated.  The media took away their national title and gave it to his daddy's team at Florida State.  The media plays so much more powerful to large population area teams. Oklahoma, Alabama, West Virginia, Auburn, Nebraska ect. have gotten beat up when going against the likes of a USC, Florida State, Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame(very large catholic following) unfortunately for the Crimson Tide fans, 2 National Titles have escaped them to be given to the Irish. The SEC media pushed hard for LSU this last season even after surviving Tennessee by a late interception & losing their last game of the regular season at home to a Razorback team that got killed by Missouri in the Cottonbowl.  I'm sure the media did not like that at all.  Of Course last years Nat'l title would have been sloppy to every team. If say Notre Dame would have won 47 straight & only 1 loss in 5 seasons against all Div. 1 schools like Okla.. accomplished .  You could have added 2 more national titles to that win streak or should I say any large population Schools team would not have had to go undefeated their 3 season in a row to win their 1st title in that streak. Thats just the way it is and that won't change.

I'm gonna agree with the heart of Favorfair's point. I don't know if it is population based but their is clearly a bias. LSU was a clear media darling last year. They were having to come from behind against mediocre teams and even lost that last game and still were being described as the clear best team in CFB. How many wins does it usually take ND to creap into the top 10? USC has had a quality team this decade but also clearly benifits from the same thing. The point of the 50s teams is a great one but a weak explanation could be found in the ability of voters to see OU games back then.

I don't know but from what i have read about the 50's, i would say thet Oklahoma got over looked when it comes to national champs. all threw the 50's i think they were 115-10 with half of the decade only losing one game. Man is that something or what.
