On a post-match interview after beating Serra, a reporter from MMAweekly.com asked GSP his thoughts on a move up to middleweight for a superfight with Anderson Silva.  He smiled and said that he definitely thought that could be a possibility.

I have just removed $100 ($50 for the PPV and $50 for wings and beer) from my wallet and I'm saving it for that fantastic occasion.

I'm not sure I could be any more giddy at the possibility of an MMA fight.  Couture-Fedor, or Rampage-Kimbo (no I don't think Kimbo is anywhere near Rampage's league, but that fight would be compelling enough for me to purchase it...that would be interesting to see Kimbo fight a guy who IS what he is selling himself as)  might come close.

Thoughts?  And what are some other superfights that would prompt me to do more than just go to a sports bar that is showing the PPV.

I am going to be the first one to say this and if I'm wrong I will start an apology thread:

-Anderson Silva (my favorite fighter) will win his next 2 title defenses, neither to St. Pierre.

-St. Pierre will win his next 2 title defenses, at welterweight.

-They both will dominate their defenses

-Low and Behold...Dana White being the genius he is will set up this fight in a HUGE venue and sell it out

- With this fight being many months after Saturday night fights on May 31, there WILL be more viewers

- A sold out arena and the most pay-per-view buyers ever for UFC will witness the greatest fight of all-time

-Anderson wins by stoppage by ref after those long, punishing kicks.

Thoughts?

I am a huge fan of both of those guys. I would love to see that fight, but would have mixed feelings also. I don't want to see either of them lose, but I would pay double to see it happen anyway. I think that Silva wins in a close one.

as much as i would like to see..gsp is my favorite fighter but lets see the guy defend the belt first..he has never successfully defended the belt yet so it is going to be a year or more before these 2 step in the ring against each other..

I have my doubts if GSP could make the weight jump and still maintain enough speed to compete at Silva's level. He is only 5' 10" but man is he ever a big 170. Looking at the two fighters Sat. it was hard to believe that they weighed the same.

I could not see Silva coming down in weight to make the welterweight. I was impressed with Franklin on Sat. but after that is middleweight not one of the weaker divisions in the UFC. I am hopeing that brisbane can carry on the way he did on sat and maybe make a run for the title, but to me Silva will remain the champ for a long time coming.

My only concern about GSP moving up to middleweight is he wouldn't be a fast at MW as he is in welter. The advantage will automatically be given to Silva because it's his natural weight class. another though for everyone. Remember the fight between BJ Penn and Sherk coming up next month? BJ has already asked Dana if he can move up to welter and challenge for the belt there too and be the first to hold a lightweight and welterweight belt. Dana told him that once he cleared out the lightweight division like Silva has cleared out the middleweight he would let him. this would be a BJ vs GSP re-match and hopefully BJ has learned that he needs to be conditioned. this would be a fight that i personally would really enjoy.

Who wouldn't enjoy a BJ vs GSP fight? But personally i would love nothing more than to see Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre opposite each other in the Octagon.

I don't understand people worrying about GSP putting on weight to fight Silva.  Its not like he has to get up to 185 to fight Silva.  what would be wrong with GSP coming in at 175 or so (which is probably right around what he steps in the ring usually at.) and going against Silva.

The more I think about this fight the better chance I believe GSP would have, I think he will be able to take Anderson down and I think he is active and strong enough to do very well from the top.  Dan Henderson won the first round vs. Silva by controlling him from the top, an Lutter managed to do the same to everyones surprise.  I do not think GSP is as strong as Henderson but I think he is stronger than Lutter.

Also I wonder how Silva would do if pushed into the 4th and 5th rounds.

I honestl do think Silva would win the fight but I can easily see a sequence of events which would lead to a GSP victory.

I agree with kldub. Silva is my second favorite fighter behind, funny enough, GSP. So I would be ecstatic to see these two guys fight. I mean who wouldn't it would be the P4P #1 & #2 fighting each other. However I would have to say that I would put my money on GSP. I don't think the weight jump would be much of an issue for GSP and I just think as skilled and dominant as they both are, that GSP is just a bit better than Silva. I mean if you look at even though Silva has cleaned out the MW division. GSP has definetley beaten better fighters. So what I think will happen is that GSP will fight and school Fitch next and Silva will fight and destroy Okami. Then they will set up the super fight between GSP and Silva at the end of this year or begining of next year.
