I couldent have imagined a better start than this, especially with harden and duke on the DL after 3 starts between them. It will still be nothing short of a miracle if the A's can finish near .500 with the roster they have now so lets just stay positive and keep the expectations low as this young team will certainly have ist pitfalls and losing streaks.
Hopefully harden can get healthy and traded as our system is loaded with young pitchers but we obv need hitting prospects and harden will pull in some if he can ever get healthy for at least 5 straight starts.

From pure logic and statistics... I can see your point brettcervantes. But to me, that's not what baseball is about. That's not what rooting for a team is about. I root for the Oakland Athletics because they are MY team. They have always been my team. I bleed green and gold. My parents have a picture somewhere of me as a baby just months old dressed up in an A's uniform. I don't love baseball and the Athletics by being realistic, I love them by hoping against all hope that they are going to win even when the stats say they shouldn't. When I go to the games, I cheer for them because on any given day, either team that goes out on the field can come off the victor... and why shouldn't it be my team? Our team.
Yes, there's a place for realism and stats and everything like that, and sure we're going to have a tough time if Eric Chavez, Rich Harden and the rest of the DL never get fully healthy... but that's not what brings me joy about the game of baseball, it's the simple joy of cheering for a team I love, regardless of the stats.

I have no preconceived notions of the post season for the A's, but they are fun to watch right now. They are getting exceptional pitching from a staff of mostly nobodies, and they are bunching their hits together. Not enough home runs, but just enough hits to win games.
I doubt this will keep up all season, but it's nice while it lasts.

Speaking of surprises, how about Bobby Crosby and his little hot streak he has going on. He has raised his average to above .300 and currently leads the team in RBI's. Could this be the year Crosby proves everyone wrong and shows that he belongs as a star in the big leagues? I sure hope so. Dana Eveland has also been a pleasant surprise and so has Kurt Suzuki. 12-8 is something to be proud of, and I will continue to cheer and hope that we can pull off some sort of miracle this season and win at least 90 games. Go A's!

I disagree with that prediction. I think the odds are agiasnt the A's makeing the playoffs this year, but saying they need a miracle just to finish above .500 isnt realistic either. I have said all long that this team is going to suprise people this year and they came out of the gates swinging and are doing just that. And there doing this with Cust struggling and Harden, the Duke and Chavez on the DL. Chavez coming back is going to be a great help to a team that is already playing well. When the Duke comes back that will fill in the rotation and get Dinardo back in the bullpen we he performs alot better.
As far as Harden goes who knows. I would love to see Harden healthy and pitching and if he does actually have good year then i think the A's have a decent shot at the playoffs, becuase he is that good. This kid can flat out rake when hes healthy. Only problem is thats never happened, but as a solid A's fan its always fun to wonder "what if" lol. So all i can say is im pulling for Harden and we will see what happens. If by chance Harden dosnt ever make it back like last year i stil think they have a shot at making the playoffs, If Smith keeps pitching the way he has been. So far i am really impressed with this kid. From what i have seen he looks like a 5th year starter not a rookie. This kid has more composure then almost any other rookie pitching that i have ever seen and he dosnt seem to ever get rattled at all with is just awsome.
Looking forward to the rest of this year and the A's future is looking bright.

only a tried and true homer would actually say this team till win 80 games, show me a betting stub otherwise just saying you believe it does not matter
im just saying it enjoy it while it lasts because there is a 90% chance that this young inexperienced team will not finish at .500
lackey and escobar still have not pitched for the Angels yet and bedard had 2 starts or something
I hope im wrong but if i was to put my money where my mouth is it would be that the A's finish third with a load of promise for the coming seasons

LOL 90 % chance to not even reach .500 now thats just sad and pathetic. Are you sure your an A's fan and not just a hater in disguise.
I could see 90% chance that they wont make the playoffs but come on .500 isnt that far fetched at all. I dont see how the Angels and Mariners pitchers coming back will stop us from making .500 How many times will we actually face one of those 3. maybe 7-8 times at the most. Hardly enough to matter. And btw i never said were we would finish in the league. Most likely if we are just above .500 that would be 3rd in this division this year.

i hate to be arguing with fellow a's fans but take your damn homer goggles off and look at our lineup and rotation, we are running out Joe Blanton as our number 1
do you really think eveland will finish with a sub 2 ERA? do you think harden will start more than 20 games this year? half our starting lineup would not be starting on 20 teams in the league
we also need to look at the fact that cust was probably a one year wonder
80 wins for a team this young and inexperienced should garner alot of attention for geren and coach of the year as this is pretty much a team full of prospects
now if we sign thomas or especially bonds it would be a different story, but this lineup is not major league ready and unless the staff combines for an era under 3.00 this team will struggle

Well we don't see things eye to eye and thats fine. I just think your being overly pessimistic about the A's this year. And we can swap stats and opinions all day long and neither of us is going to change there minds. And get over yourself with the Homer BS, just because i see things differently then you doesn't mean that i'm just some dumb ass fan that thinks the A's are gonna win the World Series every year.
The A's have proven the expects wrong time and time agian and every year people still doubt them. Anywase we will know who was right at the End of the year. until then Go A's.
