Fun game yesterday.  Biggest single problem-- wide receivers with trouble catching the ball.  I hope they work on that day in, day out during the summer.

Here's the recap:
http://www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=39&url_article_id=21994&change_well_id=2

Pulley and Hartline performed equally - sub-.500 completion percentage, about 130 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, ran for a TD and 50 or so yards.

Lyons had a huge game receiving for the White team, 148 yards and 2 TDs - one from Pulley, one from Fidler.

Alfonso Smith was the best RB, getting 170+ for the Blue team and almost 200 all-purpose yards.

Locke got 12 carries for the White team and finished with 55 yards.

So as we've known for a while, it looks like our RBs (but not necessarily our overall running game as that depends on the line too) are our best asset, the QB play is probably going to be mediocre, and the receivers aside from Lyons are basically terrible right now for an SEC team.

And the bad thing was most of the drops where for Hartline.  Heartline was hitting them on the numbers and they were dropped. Pulley threw alot behind the WRs. Locke ran for the white.  But at running Smith impressed more than Allen or Locke.  Pulley had a 138 yards one passing TD and a rushing.  But to me looked rattled all day.  Hartline really handled the game well at the line.  Dicky had 148 yds and 2 TDs.  But as uk_num_1 said, we have to work on our WRs core.

Hey uk_num_1, what do you think the chances are if Hartline gets the job, of Curtis moving to wideout to help with that?

I think that would be a good move. QB's generally have good hands, they already know what routes should be run with what plays, and know what hot reads are. There is plenty of precedence for this, Atwaan Randle-El, Matt Jones from Arkansas, and I know there have been more whose names just won't come to me without some research. Also, I subscribe to the theory that if you have two equal Quaterbacks, you really don't have a QB.  This is a position that the team needs to unite behind, not chose sides over. Pulley can play WR, Heartline can only play QB. The other factor is what kind of offense will UK run. If Pulley is to be QB, can Brooks adapt to some variation of the veer or option. I believe he would rather stick with the more traditional dropback pocket passer like Woodson rather than scrap their whole offense.

If the receivers are so bad, what are the chances that our running backs will be put into motion as receivers on a regular basis?

I think that over the summer the wr will be able to improve.  I do think that they need to have one solid QB just like you said.  I can't wait for this season to roll around.  We will have a great season again!!  I think the defense will be really good, and with joker the offense will come around to.  GO BIG BLUE!!!

I have to say that I appreciate those of you who are going to practices, attending the B/W game and keeping the rest of us up to date.  I'm a long distance fan, so I'll never get this kind of information in April without you guys.  I'm sure the team appreciates your enthusiasm as well.

I was on the sidelines for the Blue/White game and really don't think that we have too much to worry about.  I liked what I saw in the second half from all parties involved!  Yes, as mentioned above, our defense is going to be a break from the norm.  You can really see the overall team speed now.  Don't forget that we have some people that are still in high school waiting on the year to end!  Some of those guys are going to make an immediate impact!!!  Good times to come, good times!  Go Cats!

yeah they looked good but there is room for improvement, but I hate saying this more then anything, but were not on the same level as last year, and were not on the same levels as GA,FL,TN,or LSU. I do believe we have opportunites for upsets but thats every year. FL is the team to beat isn the SEC, so i dont see us beating them but LSU and TN lost alot of starters and GA is coming to Lexington, so we got a shot for second in the SEC east and Pssiably second in the Entire SEC, But i feel it will be anouther bowl game for us this year hopefully better then the music city bowl but ill take it over none at all.

I really think we might shock the SEC with our running.More so againest teams like the Gators and the VOLS mainly.  I'm exited about the possiblites this fall.  We are SO deep.  We have never been this deep.

I think alot of Saturdays offensive problems.  Was our defense.  They I feel are getting overlooked.  They wern't just playing good, they were laying the WOOD. Pulley toke some pretty hard hits, one that really scared me, when BROOKS made him go set out.  And to the offenses (White)credit, they still got it done againest a good defense.  AND THEY FINISHED!! I think we are better than last year, because we have some many options.

DEPTH MATTERS!!!!!

i agree depth does matter but we have injurie problems with our depth at running back and we cant run for 3 hundred yards a game so we do need a good qb and good wr plus we need D to stop the other teams O. Im not discrediting UK they are good and they have the talent to be top notch in the SEC but can they live up to there talents, that is my main concern.

Was a great event, now I'm all pumped up for August!!

I was really, really impressed with Fidler. After he threw a brick the first time he got the ball, he was pretty much dead-on accurate. All three can run like the wind.

But I agree with whomever said it first - give credit where it is due; our defense will be one of the best in the SEC this season. It's monstrous - look for us to be this year's Auburn(in terms of defensive ferocity!).

And the little things have improved - Trevard Lindley(a good friend of mine) has greatly improved his pass coverage, for example. Not something major that you'd think to watch for, but certainly there. :-)
