I will begin by saying that ever since Kevin Bass struck out with a full count and the bases loaded the Astros have made me sick.  He was my favorite player and that killed me.  Since then I have gone to mabey 2 or 3 games a year including the one world series game that i snuck in.  I am 27 years old so that is round 80 I would say.  They have never won a game that I have gone to...............EVER!  So i guess it is natural that they make me sick yet they are my fav. baseball team.

So I really don't read about them to much except for what is up on the front page of the chronicle.  I must say though that I am glad to see Roy O finally got a win.  It seems the last couple of years we have just made stupid choices in players.  Woody Williams was supposed to be so great and he sucks, is he even on the team?  We were supposed to get these huge bats in Lee and Tejada but i don't see us scoring any runs and now we find out that Tejada is 2 years older than her really is.  We let Carlos Beltran and Alou go and they seem to be bats that we would really like to have the past couple of years.  We have had a good ballpen the last couple of years but it just seems like we suck.

I guess i am just wondering if our front office is full of Jack @sses or is it Mr. McClain who wont break the bread to get us some prime time tallent.  Or do we have it right now and they just aint coming through?

Remeber that you just got Ed Wade as GM this year. As much as he was maligned in Philly, look at what he did in development (Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, Burrell). He already took  Micheal Bourn with him (which, being a Phillies fan I am sort of mad - Lidge hasn't produced anything yet).

Even though I've seen comments on trying to get competitive now, wait a few years and you'll see how much of an impact Wade might have.

He's right Ed Wade is brand new and it will take awhile to see his impact. He's not known for being the best major league GM, but is great at evaluating talent and development (see Phillies current roster). This team stinks because of a combination of Tim Purpura and good ol' Uncle Drayton. McLane has let the payroll rise close to and over 100 million around 2004-2006. This year it's down to 89 million, I think, but that's not his fault, he is paying Kazuo Matsui 16.5 over the next 3 years. However, it has been said that McLane hinders the front office, a bit too much. Personally, I like to see the owner take a hands on approach to his investment, I think he's a great owner. His major fault, however, is he has failed to open his pockets come draft time. This was the case when Houston failed to sign third round pick Derek Dietrich last august, Houston's first pick. Signing players, like Carlos Lee and Woody Williams, while not offering arbitration to the likes of Roger Clemens, and Andy Pettitte have taken away Houston's early picks anyways. They've also traded away prospects for major leaguers, like Josh Anderson for Villarreal, Anderson who's tearing up AAA, and could replace the struggling Bourn. Yes, struggling Bourn! I said it, raise that average! Or the deal the gave Jose Valverde. Houston's inability to raise prospects to the major league level, has been the kryptonite recently. However, here stands the turn of the tide. Houston has five picks in the first three rounds of this year's draft, including the number ten overall. They also have expert Ed Wade on their side. So, Houston's prospect drought should end. Otherwise I feel this team has it right now. In fact, other than the last two seasons, they've been the fifth most successful franchise the last decade and a half. So, I don't see why you are complaining.

Lidge hasn't "produced" anything yet?

Tom Franklin on the 10th inning show tonight looked up Lidge's stats for a caller and reported them as 7 appearances, 7 IP, 4 saves, and 0.00 ERA.

I guess a closer can't produce the same way a RBI-producer does... or a starter. But I'd say that's pretty good relief pitcher work there. We'd certainly welcome it about now from Valverde, what with his 10.00 ERA and all.
