No more horse-collars, no more sideline warnings, and no more incidental facemasks.  The play clock rule changed too.  This one might have the biggest effect on the new AU offense.  I hope it works in our favor, like Coach Tubs expects, but it is disappointing to see the games get shorter and shorter every year.  Any thoughts?

WDE!

You'll have to look it up to get all the details, but the jist of it is that after a play is blown dead a 40 second play-clock starts.  The 25 second clock that used to start after the ball was spotted is gone.  It's more like the NFL playclock now.  I'll look for a link to all the new rules.

oh ok. well that shouldn't be a huge difference then. thanks for posting though. what do you think our chances are this year, realistically? i think that with the entire offensive line, all 3 running backs, a qb who got some pt in big time games and showed some serious promise, and several key defensive players all back, we are going to be a very dangerous team.

I think you are right.  The offense is going to be explosive.  I hope Coach Rhoades keeps the defense at the level we have seen in the last couple of years.  This team has the potential to be very, very good.  I know that was a "safe" sounding answer, but I don't like throwing out bold predictions this early.

i think that it will only work in our favor with the new play clock rule. if you think about it we arent going to be huddling and other teams will be. this will do nothing but help us. we should still be able to get 15-25 more plays a game than the past few years.

which also means 15-25 more plays than our opponents, and 15-25 more chances to score.

i was sitting at momma g's this afternoon with an ice cold pitcher of coors and a famous momma's love and i looked out over the empty seats of jordan-hare stadium as the lights around the inside flashed and scrolled across the screens and i just got a chill down my spine thinking about the madhouse it will be in just a few short months. MAN i can't wait until football season.
