hahahaha no see I can handle an inteligent opinion besides my own this was a stupid opinion. My favorite part was how we never pay for it are you speaking of the talent because how are they supposed to pay for it they are screwed in the cap they are in the worst money management problem in the league. So the other part is Jerry Jones as much as I hate him he is smart and would not give up a pick now for roy because he would try to wait until next year hoping he gets away from the Lions. But if the lions have a good season expect to see roy back again

Fullboat, don't create a post if you don't want to hear what people have to say. We understand your take on the situation (you gave it to us a dozen times), but the fact is most of us disagree. The idea of these posts is for people to share their opinions and ideas. You shared yours and then called everyone that disagreed with you "idiots" and "a#* holes." You sound like a spoiled little kid on here- you gave your opinion, and then pitched a fit when almost everyone disagreed with you. Grow up and deal with it.
If you can't take the heat, then stay out of the kitchen son.

Yes the Lions still have a lot of holes to fill at RT, RB, DE, MLB, and SLB. (They are done in the secondary I think.) The only way they should even consider trading Roy Williams is for a Hershel Walker type deal. Roy is a game changing type player who the Lions don't and shouldn't want to give up if they ever want a winning season. Any deal from Dallas would have to include both first round picks plus more.
On your side not. I like Brohm more than I like Stanton at QB, but I think the Lions drafting Brohm is a no-go. I think they are planning on Stanton as the Lions QB of the future unless he gets severly injured or falls flat on his face. After investing a 2nd round pick in him they need to give him the opportunity. The Lions won't be drafting any QBs this year. I just hope they surround whoever plays QB with some talent.

First off, I agree that trading Roy is not a good idea...but...
For those of you saying that we can slap the franchise tag on him next year, there are 2 things to consider.
1) The owners are very unhappy with the current CBA and the incredible rise of the salary cap. It's very likely that they will vote to negate it come November.
2) The results of said negation will have a dramatic affect on how the team does business next year. There are 2 likely results. A new CBA will come about, with more rein in on how much of league gross revenue goes into the salary cap. Such a move will drastically eat into that 27 million in cap room the Lions have coming up. If a new CBA is NOT agreed on, then 2009 will be an uncapped year. As far as how that affects Roy Williams, he will be stuck a Lion in that case because the eligibility for free agency goes from 4 years to 6 years, and he will have only played 5.

*cough*, your facts about the upcomming CBA issues are all correct, but none of that can happen untill the 2010 season. The owners can vote out of it at the end of this year, but it won't effect the 2009 season. I'll try to find the article that explained it and post a link to it.

I believe there are very few players in the NFL that are untouchable when it comes to a trade. The majority are QBs and a couple of RBs. After that, you are just talking about price. Fullboat I believe most would agree that you can trade him but for what? Speculation at non-proven talent? Roy is a great player and has proven that he deserve a long term contract which he will be given an opportunity to sign with Detroit before becoming a FA and I believe he will sign because he has never expressed a wanting to be off the team.
I believe if you started moving him to other teams outside of Dallas you might find some support but only if you include players and possibly draft picks. Take Oakland for instance, I would give Roy to them for MLB Morrison and DE/DT Kelley and a 3rd, yeah unrealistic but we would need a lot. You can't trade your best player for a possibility at a good player and that is for teams that have proven that they can draft.
On the other hand we can play CJ, Furrey, and Mcdonald and be pretty OK at WR and fill in other holes on this team. We would need something special to make that happen though or confirmation that he will not sign again with us.
Oh and there are not 2 high paid Pro-Bowl WRs who play together? Rice and Clark, Irvin and Harper, Monk and Sanders, McCaffrey and Smith, Harrison and Wayne and there are plenty more all getting to at least 1 Pro Bowl and getting a Championship.

*cough*, I think in essence that the problems with the CBA may be exactly what the Lions are planning for. The cap problems currently are more manifest in the fact that they are trying to clear space at a rapid rate. They accelerated the cap hit on Calvin last year and this year. Knocking off 10 million in total from his bonus. I think that the cap space will be a generous cushion in case the cap is dropped. There will be few teams prepared to handle a drop in cap escalation. Also if the cap is lowered, salaries will have to be adjusted due simple to the supply of funds leaguewide. We could easily in the situation get Roy resigned at a more reasonable cap figure, Sims also. Also, before someone raises the arguement, an uncapped year would not cause a Yankees-like team to sign everyone to massive contracts in bid to dominate. This would go totally against the cause they all have in lowering the cap. The owner would be blackballed in the owner's meetings and would be in dire straights when a new agreement was made. Much in the reverse salaries would be extraordinarily low as the owner would be worried about the ramifications of the the new CBA.

Fullboat why do you think our chances of having a good season are slim to none? I mean look at our division there is no team that you honestily can say will win the division..I ain't really scaried of the three teams led by QB's Grossman, rodgers, and T. Jackson..i mean I would probably rather have Kitna then any of those three..Sure the Bears, Packers, and Vikings can play D.. But I like our offense better then any of those teams offenses..Too me the division is wide open to any of the four teams..And we ain't acting like Roy Williams is a modern day Jesus..We merely support a player that has played hard and put his all into trying to help the Lions become a better team..He is probably the best player on the team..Why would we want to trade him for a unproven first rounder? I mean the draft helps some if you get the right picks but too many people put all their faith in draft picks..What about the guys that have proven they can play who cares if they are 28 or 29 and getting older...If he wants out after this year at least the fans supported him and didn't push him out for a first round pick..

tpaulus,
Oops. You're right. I went back and looked at my sources, and it was 2010. I could have sworn they all said 2009. I guess I should have taken my own advice and checked my facts before posting...lol.

I dont think it is a good idea to trade Roy Williams, but if he does want out or to go to Dallas, then a a trade that includes Marion Barber and another player would work. it would have to be quality players they can fill at least 2 holes with.
