I think it can be if Tyson Jackson has a better season than he did last year.  Charles Alexander should be back for the fall.  He's been our most consistent run stopper over the last few seasons and it showed when he was injured last year.  I like Drake Nevis.  He's got NFL quickness, as does Ricky Jean-Francois.  It should definitely be exciting!!!

If we get pressure off our edges, which we didn't get last year, I think we will be a much better line.  I have to think that this years line will be better than last years because I too think we will be faster on the line and better off the edges.  I know that Dorsey got a lot of cred, but our line somewhat sucked at getting to the passer, good against the run, but too oftern the QB could stand tall and beat us with the pass.

The key to me is the play of the CB's...very highly recruited but unproven...LB's also a concern...we're going to be outstanding at DL & Safety.

To answer your question.....maybe.

The good news is the D line will once again be one of the best in college football. The really good news is it should be even better than last year.

You say if Tyson Jackson has a better season they could be better. The thing with that is Tyson actually had a real good season last year, but his sack stats make people think he didn't have a good year. Do you realize that a lot of times he was dropping back into coverage instaed of rushing the passer. That isn't his fault if he is only playing the way the scheme calls for him to play. He had a lot of balls batted down, mostly on crucial downs, but that isn't one of the glory stats people look at. If he is allowed to bull rush the passer regularly he will have a lot of sacks this year.

I think Jean-Francois is the real deal and with Alexander back at full speed, the legacy of the dominating LSU DL will continue. Better than last season? I think so. But there are a couple of qualities that must be maintained:

- Motor on all the time: This started with the prison guard, Chad Lavalais, and continued through Kyle Williams and Dorsey. They never took a play off. If we get that from J-F, all will be good.

- The bull rush: Part of the LSU DL success of the past 5 years is the bull rush up the middle that collapses the pocket into QB's face. This not only cramps the QB's throwing style and results in sacks, but eventually happy feet, rushed passes, incompletes and INTs. Given J-F's flattening of tOSU's Persons on the blocked FG, it seems we have the stud to do it.

And we have the backups galore (Nevis, Alem, etc.). Jackson and Pittman are due for a stellar season from the ends. All is good folks. These are the Golden Years of Tiger Football ...
