Does ESPN have a Ohio State Slant or what?  Herbstreet is using that station to recruit players. A friend of mine said OSU is doing some shady stuff (I can't confirm that) which does't surprise me.  I wish they played USC each year so we wouldn't have to watch them get destroyed in the Championship after beating up on a weak Big 10 schedule.  I'm tired of seeing Eddie George, Herbstreet, & Chris Carter pump this team up and then we have to watch them in the title game. These three guy's are shocked when OSU gets destroyed (I'm NOT, I knew they would be spanked) and when they put the camera on them they look like they swallowed a Frog. Well you beat your own crappy division OSU, Play a decent schedule & you will lose 3 a year. Remember, Ohio State won a suspect title against Miami and Miami didn't even have a good coach (In fact, he got fired). This guy Jim Tressell is not a great coach (believe me) like eveybody thinks he is, he's not a bad coach but he has pretty good talent and he doesn't get it done. He beat a Miami team with no coach when he won that title & he beats up on the Big Easy 10. Plllllllllllllllease, stop over rating this guy. He got his teeth kicked in the last two years. I kept telling everybody OSU is OVER RATED, Nobody believed me when I said they would lose there Bowl games by 14 (It will happen again). Don't be fooled by Herbstreet or Tressell, they can put a good team on the field but they are not elite. They will lose every Bowl game by more then 10. It doesn't matter who goes to school there. By the way, that QB they recruited don't worry about him he is playing out of position he is a terrible passer with poor mechanics. ND recruited him at WR and that's what he should play , Or he would make a good FS.

Now that ND is getting better talent we willl take over college football in 2 years (have to wait a year maybe two). The flood gates are going to open for ND very soon, they already got a great 2008 class. When Weise gets talent it's all over. He had decent talent with the 2005 team but our freshmen class coming in is much better then that 2005 team. Believe me, I have picked 5 out of the last 8 National champions I'm an Exellent  judge of talent. And yes I did say ND would have a bad year this past year, I didn't say 3 wins but I did say 5 to 7. Don't blame Weise like ESPN Dorks do, No coach was winning with the talent they had, that is all changing. I have ND winning eight games this year, maybe nine. Don't worry ND fans I promise you we will take over very soon, I'm very good at this stuff.  ROCK ON !

GO IRISH ! 2009 National Champions

i am as pro ND as they come....  but your post carries no weight.   Herby is the best analyst they have.  he actually is my next door neighbor here in COlumbus.... however..  for ever Herby/ OSU comment made on ESPN... LOU HOLTZ has 15 for ND.

ESPN = Lou's channel

Lou = ND

therefor

ESPN = ND

its all relative.

Kerins-  While I agree with you that Herbstreit is the best analyst ESPN has, that doesn't make him good.  ESPN is pretty crappy as far as sports information.  ESPN does heavily favor the likes of OSU, USC, and a few others.  Now the favoring of OSU may not have anything to do with Herbstreit, but it does in fact happen.  Lou isn't even that great of an analyst but he is pretty much ignored.  Anything positive said about ND by him is smashed to the ground by the likes of Mark May and the others.

Well as a michigan fan i agree the media and the former O'l Suck U players ( who are now annalyst ) like to hype up there old team  ( even though you are suppose to fairly judge teams and not be biast ) but you see them  do it anyways ....i have been saying for awhile that Ohio State is overrated...but dont tell that to there fans...they cant take an honest opinion about there team- first thing they do is throw insults about your team and make excuses and i've heard them all ......... If the Suckeyes end up in the NC game they'll lose... I probally badly and the fans will continue to make up lame excuses

As far as ND...they need a few good recruiting classes in order to have a good year.. ( how much time they'll give weiss is a big question mark ) -- probally 5-6 games...they should give michigan a good game ( since michigan is also rebuilding with a fairly young team ).....

I just have to say, that I hate, hate, Mark May. The guy is the most biased analyst towards ND that I have ever seen on TV. Whenever ND is mentioned, he gets this smile on his face like he is ready to criticize the hell out of ND. I tried to look up the years he was at Pitt if ND beat them, but I couldn't find the scores of the games for those years. Anyway, I don't mind Herbstreit, he is fairly objective, but Mark May... fuuuuuck him. Sorry for the profanities, but that is how much I despise him.

ND turned down May for academic reasons.

Mark May has blowup dolls of Pete Carroll and  the  Trojan on the horse in his closet. He could quite possibly be the BIGGEST USC suck up in the country.

I agree that Herbstreet is pretty fair and objective and that Mark May is against ND no matter what they do.

I don't mind Herbstreit either. Most of the time he is very fair and balanced and by far the best "analyst" EsPN has for college football. I'm fully convinced the only reason May and Holtz are still on TV is because the constant friction between them makes watching them somewhat entertaining. Neither really says anything over insightful, but together they're comical. I hate Mark May as much as the next guy and will love Holtz forever, but neither are that great at college football analysis. Holtz's pep talks on the other hand are pretty decent.

That being said, other schools can point at ND's NBC contract as an unfair recruiting tool. We have our own network for crying out loud. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we do, but if you're going to point out other school's advantages in the media, you have to be fair and also consider ours. Weis can guarantee every recruit that he's going to be playing on national TV at least 6 weeks every single year. There's not another coach in the country that can guarantee the same exposure.

i can't completely hate on Herbie. two years ago he was Michigan's biggest cheerleader to get into the BCS title game over Florida. Mark May seems to hate everybody. he's a rabble-rouser. every network needs someone like him to help with ratings.Holtz is like your kind old senile grandpa. you just don't have the heart to tell him that he's off-base most of the time with his statements.

i don't think ESPN has been used as a recruiting tool any more for OSU than it has for any other team. Desmond Howard is right there with Herbie and he doesn't let anyone forget where he went to college at. and May is there to tell everyone that USC and the SEC are God's gift to athletics. outside of Holtz(bless his heart) there isn't much Notre Dame talk on ESPN because A) they haven't beaten a top 25 team or won a bowl game in a while and B) they have their own network to spread the gospel of their greatness.

Herbie is an OSU shill.  I mean, look at what they did for him -- the 2 star QB from Centerville.  Had it not been for them, he wouldn't have met his wife, and he wouldn't have gotten the ESPN gig.  So do you think he might be a little grateful?  You think he might treat them on-air with reverence?  If it wasn't for them and our good friend Johnny Cooper, he'd be selling insurance or real estate in Columbas.

I can live with his Buckeye worship.  But couldn't they do something about his makeup?  I mean between the tanning center and the Max Factor, the guy looks like he ought to be hangin out in one of those bars.  Loose the pancake and the hair gel Kirk.  You're a football announcer for crying out loud.
