This has been a tough week for the yanks. posada, bruney and a-rod all have injuries that could become worse. Posada might need surgery although the doctors dont seem to think so at this point. Bruney could be done for the year with his leg injury and a-rod could be lost for 2 weeks if he goes on the DL.
I dont really like how girardi is giving guys so many days off this early in the season. Matsui sat out 2 games in a row and nobody has played eveygame so far. I no he is trying to save them for the whole season and not were them out so fast, its just my thoughts.

John Girardi's strategy may cause some more losses early on, but the thing to remember is that baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. Despite all this talk about winning the division and getting the best record, that stuff doesn't really matter once the largely luck-ridden playoffs role around. The key is to make the playoffs and to do so while you are hot. The first half, in many ways, doesn't even matter. I mean, you don't want to fall too far behind but it's not important that you play lights out this early. Post All Star break is when the "real" season begins, so to speak, September is when a championship team needs to be playing its best regular season baseball, so that it can peak in October. A lot of it's luck, I realize, but a manager does have some control. He has to keep everyone fresh during the early part of the season while mixing up lineups, rotations, and bullpens to find the right combination of guys. By September, there should be continuity and players should be clicking on all gears. That gets you ready for October, when the important part of the season begins.

well... the month is over... 14-15 record... could have been a lot worse. Without A-ROD and Posada in the lineup for some time, the Yankees need to find a way to consistently score runs. Cano seems to be waiting for the calendar to change to May, so hopefully that will do the trick. Giambi... ehhh... I don't want to talk about him. The players are saying all the right things about not feeling sorry for themselves, and needing to get the job done with the players that they have available. But the proof is in the results, and the Yankees need to start winning on this home stand...

After a humbling sweep at home against the Tigers which brought more injury issues, and questions than answers, CM Wang does what an ace pitcher should do; stop a losing streak. Wang is 6-0, and seemed to pitch through a nail/thumb issue, getting a big DP ball to end the 5th inning.
Yankees need to have productive AB's against left-handed pitchers, cuz with A-ROD and Posada out, they will see plenty of them... starters, and a bunch of relievers...
Moose vs. King Felix... early game, tmw... Go Yankees... :)

update: As U guys may already know: CM Wang had forearm cramps, last night... kind of similar to Carlos Zambrano, earier in the year... not much to worry about... :)

Two GREAT wins out of the Yankees. People thought the team was spiraling out of control after the sweep by the Tigers. Posada and Arod were out, the bats were struggling, the young pitching was hurt and inconsistent, the Yankees were blowing leads. And who's coming to town? Two of the very best pitchers in baseball in Erik Bedard and Felix Hernandez. Well, the team showed some heart, the top of the order logged some quality at bats, the pitching was almost flawless. Guys who had been ridiculed like Hawkins and Farnsworth played their part, as did major league newcomers Ramirez and Veras, leading to six innings of scoreless relief. Nobody was amazing, but there were a lot of solid contributors.
I realize it's just 2 games against a subpar lineup, but the team really showed heart. When you are down and out, coming off an embarrassing sweep, facing two of the best pitchers in baseball it's easy to role over and die. Very nice job, Yankees. You showed some hear!

And the Yankees sweep the Mariners. i was very happy about the way Rasner pitched. He made really only one mistake and was solid throughout the game. Maybe cano is starting to get going since he had 2 homeruns in the last 2 games. Anyway what do you guys think about the possibility of iegawa starting again.

Much-needed sweep, with clutch hitting, and quality pitching all the way around... I believe Kei Igawa is going to take Kennedy's place in the rotation... God help us... :)

I feel ya... Kei Igawa is not a guy you want to rely on. Look on the bright side though, he really can't do any worse then Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy did. Let's just hope that he lives up to at least a little of the money the Yankees are paying him. You got to figure, the Yankees were .500 with Hughes and Kennedy going 0-6 with an 8+ ERA. Any wins out of Rasner(already 1-0), Igawa, or whoever, are going to help.

Tough game for the Bombers tonight as Fausto Carmona and the Tribe come to town. We'll need a strong outing from Pettitte and a little small ball to help maufacture runs against one baseball's better pitchers. The bats have been on as of late, though, particularly at the top of the order and guys are starting to hit a lot better with RISP. The team is also settling in nicely at home after a rough road trip. Cleveland's bats have been slumping lately and there are a lot question marks surrounding the team. This would be a great opportunity for a back to back sweep. Still, one game at at time...handle business tonight first. Expect a quality pitching duel between Andy and Carmona, with Pettitte coming out as the winner of the top of the order can keep up its solid play.

I am just getting amused by the way a lot of sports announcers and commentators are counting our Yankees out already. This is particularly true of the people on ESPN who seem to believe the Yanks are dead in the water already. True, I would love to see them performing better and winning more games but I have to also look at the past. Last season, through 41 games, we were 10.5 games out of first in the East and 5 games under .500. This year through 41 games we are only 3.5 out of the lead and just a game under .500. We were certainly not out of it last year, as we almost overcame a 14.5 game defeicit. Are all of the commentators suffering from a short memory or are they just that against the Yanks? In any case, with what we overcame last year, there is no reason to believe that it can't be done this year.
