Just aboout had a coronary when we gave up the four run lead in the 5th.  Certainly glad the hitting was plentiful tonight.  Bullpen did an excellent job.  They were only credited with one of the runs.  Wang rung up for 8.  What I wonder though is whether it is actually that beficial for Mo to not have pitched being as he had already gotten warmed up to pitch.  Let's keep things rolling tomorrow.  Go Yankees!

I didnt like last nights ump either. He took to long to call balls and strikes. I can see why players got mad at him. I no it would annoy the hell out of me if I was a player

I agree, he should call it quicker.  That being said, however, every player knows that ump calls late.  They need to be able to deal with it.  Manny's strikeout was no later a call than anything else last night, he just took off joging to first base real quick so when he got rung up he looked like an ass.........  but that is nothing new for him :)

Can somebody, anybody, please tell me why Mussina is in pinstripes instead of a retirement home?  Seriously.  Yeah, he MAY have been good, but that was a few years ago.  Way to give Boston a little extra BP before they move on to their next series.

Surely to God there is SOMEBODY in the farm system that can pitch above the little league level...

To the Steinbrenner Family:  Buy us some pitching, or get ready for a long season...

I think they just wanted to make sure mussina was done and last year wasnt just a bad year. I also think he's their to give a little senior advice to the younger guys like joba hughes and kennedy. I'm not sure how much he can help them, but thats just my thoughts. In a couple weeks or a few more bad outings from mussina, I think he will switch spots with joba or somehow be traded. Im not sure what his contract is or if anybody would want him.

I was really hoping that Mussina would drastically improve his performance last year, but so far he doesn't even look as good as last year.  I would hope that someone in the ssystem could pitch a little bit better.  However, then we are talking about having a rotation made up of 3 rookies.  I think it would be good to trade for a decent pitcher, but a what price?

As to Hughes, he appears to have pitched a better game so far that his last couple of performances.  We really need for him to turn things around quickly.

I spoke to soon.  Hughes gives up 5 ER in 5 1/3.  Just hope our bats get going and the bullpen can stop the bleeding.

It's been somewhat of an unfortunate start to the season for Hughes, and tonight the bullpen buried him, and I have to say that I am concerned about Hawkins.  But I still feel as I did before the season began about Hughes.  He could have a breakout season and get twenty wins.  When his curve is sharp, he is a nasty pitcher.  I think we all saw that last year in his no-hitter before he popped a hamstring.  Overall, he pitched well for the Yankees tonight.  Normally, they are going to give him more run support and make it easier on him.  What he, and Ian Kennedy need, is confidence.  The bats will pick up though, and the pitching will come through, and we'll bring one last championship to the big ballpark in the bronx.

Game 2 versus Orioles tonight.  What do you see Kennedy doing this evening?  He pitched a great gaame on his last outing.  I sure hope he repeats that tonight.  Here's to having a great game and a Yankeess win!

How did that work out?  Now you have Hughes, Kennedy and Mussina who you need replacements for.  Hope you have a deep farm system!

The Yankees just look listless right now. they have a lot of baggage, Giambi, Mussina, etc. I guess you can thank the Lord you didn't get Bedard. from here it looks like a long year in the Bronx. Oh BTW  Go O's

Guys you got to remember this, in spite of all of the Yankees struggles (Offense Pitching etc) their only 9-10. It could be alot worse. The yankees need their hitters to start hitting, and need quality starts from Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. Hopefully, they can get everything going. Don't give up, it's still too early.
