This is getting ridculous. The NBA has made a mockery out of college basketball with this whole one year out of high school to be eligible for the draft. I'm sick of seeing talent jump for the pros after one year in college. There are a few that are ready for the pro game, but guys named Michael Beasley are few and far between. The NBA needs to extend the eligibility rule at two at least two years. Similar to what the NFL has in place. Hearing guys like Eric Gordon of IU say he wants to compete at the highest level and that it has nothing to do with money is sad. IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH MONEY! Stay in school. Get an education, and at the same time improve your future draft stock. Its just sad to see these guys leave the college game, which in my opinion is much more entertaining than the NBA.

I agree but they had to fight just to get it to one year, and that is at least better than a bunch of High Schoolers entering the draft.

I have to disagree... I think that the one year min for school has actually helped both the NBA & college game.
If there wasn't we would continually see 4-5 players making the high school jump every year...
And...
You can't compare the two sports... Who says that NFL has anything better with an extra year?

I disagree with all of you. How would you like someone telling you that you couldn't get a job. They are walking a very fine line with the 1 yr rule as it is. The NFL nearly lost their case requiring so many years of college. As a basketball it does suck to see young talent leave too soon but it also sucks to be basically slave laborers for colleges who rake in huge revenues off your sweat and tears. The amount of cash the star players bring to universities is gigantic to what they actually receive. They'd be better off with a farm-league like baseball. It would suck for us but who is this actually about...I think the atheletes should have more control over their destiny. Maybe the NBDL will grow into a farm league for young kids to play for cash instead of subsidizing everyone else's education.

All this hate for guys going to work is so hypocritical. Do they say the young golfer, tennis, or baseball start should not turn pro? No. When a basketball player or football player is looking to go from student to professional it's looked at as some kid who's in a greedy rush to make money. Maybe we should consider that they're already working age young adults?
And why should a kid stay and continue to fill $$ coffers when the NCAA gives them every reason to desire to leave with all their hypocritical, BS rules? "Get an education", they say...the same education that all the nations raped upper middle class got and still get. The same education that has a whole world doubled over, laughing with the knowledge that we don't know JACK!
I can appreciate the need for solid education - but let's not fool our selves - the main propose for doing so is to be self-sufficient, is it not? The schools make millions off these kids. Everyone is getting a slice here, two slices there - and the kid can't even borrow a red penny from the coach or anyone else. It's just bull.
Mess up a golden, one in a million chance? No thanks. I know how to read, write, I know how to do math enough to know right from wrong with money - I'd like to work, and make millions, please. Maybe later I can go into educating myself when I KNOW what suites me best as an alternate career.

Last time I checked you could play pro Hockey right out of highschool, pro baseball right out of highschool , tennis you could go pro while still in highschool, so why knock a kid in basketball if he could go right out of highschool?? I like the one year college minimum because it gives those kids that were not too sure about going to college or the NBA a year to see how thier game stacks up.
So Thunder1 I agree with you one hundread percent, if they are capable of going pro why not, last time I checked no one will worry about anyone on these boards if they want to or if they have gone out into the working world to get a job right out of highschool.

1Thunder, you sound like a student athlete that wasn't good enough to make it pro!! LOL...basically as almost everyone that watches sports knows...basketball and football players, hell most sports athelets get "special" treatment in school!! That is why when you see an interview they almost sound slow half the time...they need an education, or as much as we can force them to have...and I don't agree with ANYBODY going pro out of high school....especially not being pro IN high school...high school is way too distracting already!!!

If a team is willing to pick you in the first round, meaning you make guarenteed millions, how can you tell a kid not to go?
'Improve your stock'? They could get hurt. They have a dream to play in the NBA. If they can do that and make millions, why stop them?
They can ALWAYS go back to college, they can't always go back to the NBA. They have a dream, teams are willing to pay for them, it's that easy.

i agree could you imagine next year watching Love, Rose, Beasley, and Mayo compete again. What about this year if Duarant and Oden where still playing? WOW Texas would have been unbeatable in my opinion and i hate saying that cause i'm not much of a fan of the longhorns!
