Hey, warriors, I was just curious as to what you guys think about the season opener with the Gator, I mean no disrespect but, with what happen with the Bulldogs in the bowl game. Do you see you guys having a good chance to win this one. Either way win or lose, how do you think it will affect your season?

At least we wont have the "we are undefeated and getting snubbed by the BCS" talk all year. Florida should take care of that in 30 minutes.

With so many changes in the UH team this year, it won't be a very good measuring stick to see where the program is. A new head coach, QB, and WRs could make for a tough season for any school, but to open against a great Florida team just doesn't seem beneficial to UH. The Warriors will gain some national exposure and hopefully put forth a good effort, but their team should be measured against their WAC competition this season, not against teams in the Top 5.

On paper we probably have a less than 3% chance at winning the game, but I think it should help us for the rest of the season. After playing in a hostile environment like the swamp, road trips to Oregon State, Boise, and Fresno will seem tame in comparison. Hopefully it should get our players ready for those road games later on in the season.

I am a Warrior faithful since the 70's. Even through the 0-12 Von Appen years. Of course I would love for UH to win, but there's a slim to none chance of that happening. That said, I hope the Warriors at least learned from the Sugar Bowl and are able to put up a decent showing, and not lose too badly. But I'd still be proud of the boys!

SMOTS,
3% is a bit of a stretch, especially since the Gators haven't forgotten the careless words of June Jones just 3 short months ago..... I expect a 70-12 blowout.....and probably some fights between plays..... but, UH's program will certainly recover...... Florida is probably as good now as the USC teams UH played a few years back...... so they have certainly experienced that sour taste of destruction..... I agree that this game - despite how ridiculous the score may be - will help them in their future road games.....
So... how significant is this game ??... I think it will mark the low point of UH's next few seasons.... but it is better to get this game out of the way now....and not half-way through the season.... there will be some high points down the road in conference play.... as there always is..... think of this game as UH playing the Globetrotters in basketball.... set your expectations very low.... and just marvel at the talent of the opponent....

I expect a better showing from Hawaii in Florida than what we saw in New Orleans.
As to the game's significance (to the rest of the season):
How badly will the O-Line get schooled?
Will receivers hold on to the ball in the face of getting the stuffing kicked out of them after every catch?
Can the O-Backs get enough run(block) support to have a at least a half-way effective play-action and draw or will the Warriors get stuck in the proverbial mud of the Swamp?
If all these questions have negative answers; I would not be surprised by a 66-0 thumping; which will lead to good things assuming players/coaches learn from it.
BUT, if the Warriors manage to show some fight and some measure of speed (relatively speaking) then Florida might have to explain how they let those low-life guys from Hawaii score more than Georgia allowed (I could see a Florida winning margin as slight as 38-17). This scenario could actually backfire should the Warriors develop some headstrong attitude from such a result.
Side note...I KNOW there'll be a Georgia-Florida comparison urped up by one side or the other (meaning Georgia or Florida fans); a few of my Georgia acquaintances are looking forward to Hawaii playing a better game against Florida...
Here's hopin' Buckeyes !! is WRONG...we could all do without the on-field fights.

38-17?? No way. Not even if UH plays out of their mind. Your 66-0 score sounds more on the mark. The only reason UH will score 17 points is becasue Florida will put in their third stringers midway through the third quarter.
UH has no starting quarterback, has a different (we'll call it "modified") offensive system, five new coaches, lost all four starting receivers to the NFL draft, they have more or less the same o-line that georgia manhandled (which is an understatement) and so on.
It's definetly a rebuilding year. To make it to the Hawaii bowl would be a very good result.
How important is this florida game? not very. t'll be one of those good "character building" experiences. This game would've been alot more important, and more interesting to watch, last year, or the year before.

Okay, three points
#1 Sappho and my 60+ point margins would seem to assume that:
- - A. Florida's coming year's team will be better than last year's Georgia's team
AND
- - B. Hawaii's coming year's team will be worse than last year's.
While (B) will most likely be true; I cannot see Florida being better than Georgia last year nor this coming year. So, I really thinking that as likely as a 60+ point spread tis point #2.
#2 My 38-17 scenario assumed that ALL things FALL Hawaii's way; and I was thinking in terms of a Vegas line . . . somehow I do not see Vegas giving anything near 60+ points; I'd probably bet that one!
#3. Given the suggestion that Florida MIGHT sub down to the third level; I agree, and here's a twisted scenario...
...at half-time, the score is 35-6 (5 TDs for the Gators, two FGs for Hawaii) and Florida has had the second string in for the last 7 minutes of the second quarter...FIRST game of the season against a weaker opponent...good time to see how deep the Gators really are.
Second half, somehow, here we go again, Florida opens with another drive and ooops, there's a FG instead of a TD...but still, it's time for those THIRD stringers we mentioned.
And then what happens; those pesky Polynesians manage to finally get a solid drive together and score a TD and a two-point conversion...no, not MORE troubles for Florida; by the way, the football gods took a nasty swipe at Florida very early in the game; Tebow broke his ankle in the first quarter...and now those meddlin' mischief makers are really gonna throw a rotten quarter at the Gators!
Next day's headlines: Wow, imagine that, Florida wins their opener 38-17 against a BCS bowl team from last year; good game Gators. Here's hopin' that ankle really isn't badly broken.
So, yes there is a way; sure as heck ain't likely. Don't expect to see it.
But, no way???

Snake,
I hate to say it, but I think the Gators could be better than UGA and will probably win the SEC. That being said, JJ's "kind observations" of the Florida offense will probably get a 60 spot placed on the Warriors. The jet lag and humidity will be brutal. I'll be at the local bar watching the game, but likely cringing at the same time...

Man Biz, did I ever mention that you've got the hottest babes on your avatars?! Wow!...now let me say it backwards... Wow!
As big a Warrior fan as I've become....playing in the swamp will be no picnic....too many mesquitos... and too many question marks before playing a premier team this early in the season spells trouble for the very reasons Snake and Sapho alluded to. The best we can hope for is that the Warriors play their guts out (whatever the score), learn from the experience and remain healthy because the offense will be a Work in Progress early on in the season and who knows about our defense.
In a game like this, somewhere there's got to be a pony....no doubt Florida will expose weaknesses on both sides of the ball but in the process, this should improve the Warrior team as they shore up those soft spots... barring serious injuries obviously.
Of course, there's always that "Appalachian State" possibility that the Warriors will prevail

Nice Yum-yums, Biz,
Saw/heard a little of Hawaii's current spring workouts; things do not look remotely smooth; and both I.F. and T.G. have expressed how much more comfortable they are back in the shotgun; but that they'll handle the under-center plays just fine...oh, I hope so.
Am wondering whether Florida coaches will even make mention of JJ or his comments this year; since he's no longer a factor. Has anyone heard either way?
Those Georgia fan acquaintances I mentioned seem to think they'll get to pound on Tebow again, even though it's in the Swamp. That sort of attitude, which his SEC opponents will all be packin', is part of why I worry for his future safety.

The game is not really significant for Hawaii and kind of significant for Florida.
It's significant for Florida in that they get to open with a Division 1 team from a good non-bcs conference that went to a BCS bowl last year and has a reputation as a team that can score points. This also lets Florida get a win, making up for an embarassing loss to Michigan in last year's bowl game.
The significant thing for Hawaii is that it will probably be Hawaii's toughest ever road game. Florida is at about the same level that USC was at a few years ago when Hawaii played there and the jet lag will be worse. This is basically a great opportunity for Hawaii to play a monster SEC team on the road and hopefully will make future road trips a little easier.
Other than that, Hawaii is breaking in a new quarterback, four new receivers, and a somewhat different offense. Florida will probably be favored by 28-31 and I would expect to see a final in the 52-17 range

From a guy who's going to the game, lets just hope no one gets killed....me included.
Anyway I have heard that Graunke will not even start and that Rauch will be the starter, if thats the case it'll at least be fun to watch the "new offense" go against the best team in the country. I won't even try to predict the score I just know I am going just to support my school.
I look forward to seeing just how good Florida is because the SEC is loaded this year but I have told my buddies I think Florida with the addition of Moody from SC is going to make them hard beat by anyone.
Let's just hope Hawaii shows up and plays hard, but smart and doesn't get stupid by talking smack or getting into any fights. Oh by the way did I mention the team will be sweating from their eyeballs?? Anyway good luck to the warriors ansd I can't wait to see the new and improved uniforms from under armor......aloha!

Game what game? I vote for doggy and biz as the best looking avatars on this board.
I say we have those two mud wrestle in G-strings as the premier event.
Seriously how many people are looking forward to the best team of the SEC playing a offensively demaciated Warrior team? Not that the Hawai'i defense is even in the same league either, that would be WAC vs SEC for all you neophytes.
Doggymaster you might as well ask why did the chicken cross the road?? Or University avenue??
This reminds me of that Dennis Hopper ad for the NFL in 94' when he asked about the slug on the razor blade. Not a pretty sight no matter which way you slice it............. er slime it.
