As much as I hate the way the media treats Tiger like he has the cure to cancer in his golf bag.... they better not try to turn this year's Ryder Cup into a Azinger vs. Faldo event.

Yes, they have had words in the past during their playing days, yes it's over, yes they are friends. PLEASE do not try and turn these matches into a war of made up words...

Besides the yearly majors this is THE best golf event to watch and be a part of. Lots of tradition and history, lets not muck it up...

The media has to be watched constantly.  Just when you want to believe they are just "reporting the facts", one must remember the purpose is to sell advertising to business and organizations.   The more constroversy, the more eyes and ears on the product.  It's a shame but inventing an incident when these two are teasing each other is rewarding for members of the media.  We are talking about the pleasant deversion from everyday life- The Ryder Cup.

Can you blame the media for trying to add some intrigue to an event that has been devoid of intrigue for several years now?  Until the US starts putting up better results the media can't do anything except sensationalize other plots.

Think about it, what's the biggest rivalry for the US Ryder Cup teams of the past 10 years?  It was the time that Hal (Thank God Curtis Strange put his Sunday matches in the wrong order or I'd be the biggest bust as a Captain of all-time) Sutton paired Woods and Mickleson together.  Our own players teamed together has produced more sparks than a Yank vs. a foreigner.  What would you give to watch any of our boys stomp Garcia into oblivion?

Our team has been embarrassed badly in the most recent "competitions", so if we want the media to stop making this cup about Azinger vs. Faldo then we'd better try to make it USA vs. Europe.  Because, frankly, we've not even made it competitive of late.

So just because the US has not been winning, let's turn it into a media circus about something that has nothing to do with golf?

As bland as the Ryder Cup has been for Americans the past few years, thats how exciting it has been for the Europeans the last few years.

This event always goes through one team dominating the other and it always comes back to upsets and exciting last minute points needed to retain or regain....

Good job ihateorange1,  pull up some more articles from years ago.

These 2 had differences and words in the past, it is all over, they are friends and joke about the way the media tries to pit them against each other.

This is what the Ryder Cup IS NOT ABOUT.

You miss the point. I'm not saying I want the covereage to be about this stuff either. But unless the cup becomes more competitive then the media will write about whatever they think will sell papers.

What I am saying is that we need to find a way to be more competitive in this format.  If that's the case then we don't have to endure off-topic articles, such as the one you've complained about.
