Im a big Bruin fan and have to agree that Memphis dominated Ucla yesterday.   Ben Howland should get the utmost respect for taking Ucla to three final fours in his first five years.   He will eventually break through for his first championship.    The whole Bruin starting five should remain next season.   None of them are ready to dominate at the next level yet.    Too bad the draw of a couple million in guarenteed money is hard to pass up.

UCLA just doesn't have a dominant player, one capable of taking over by himself.

Now, that said, if Kevin Love does decide to leave, he will be a very good NBA player. He can shoot, he has the jump hook and a decent amount of moves around the basket. Best of all he can pass, which will keep people honest. That's why Bird was so good in the NBA. If he didn't have that passing ability he would have been an early version of Stojakovich.

So I disagree Love was overmatched. He had 12 points and 9 rebounds. He would have had more but UCLA's guards weren't good enough to get him the ball in the post in the second half. They kept getting pressured out of their sets and Love would have to go to the high post and set screens.

The Memphis front court didn't dominate him. Dorsey was scoreless. Taggert was just OK.

Collison was embarrassed by Rose.  They should've had Westbrook on Rose all night.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but isn't the team that lost last night basically the same team - save adding Love and leaving out Afflalo - that fouled out 2-3 players in last year's FF vs the Gators? mostly because they could not put up a workable D. the same team which lost almost the same way by getting beaten in the paint on O rebs, by being shut down from the perimeter, by being unable to stop ANY transition scoring or fast breaks??

Well, unless I am seriously wrong about that, then I would stop looking at the players so hard and start looking at Howland. Because if the same (VERY talented) team loses for the same reasons three years in a row, then I suspect the Coach has not

a) prepared them adequately and

b) come up with solutions to the team strengths that UCLA was going to face on the floor.

Ultimately the game rests with the players but i don't think they can take all the blame for what looks like a long term failure at the coaching level. C & L aren't ready for the NBA but perhaps Howland isn't ready for the final Four.
