The dunk he did was totally unnecessary since everyone else missed theirs. All he had to do is just stand under the basket and jump up and make a dunk even if it was not spectacular. But, NOOOOOO, he had to do a run the court jump with his foot half across the free throw line and sky....ala, Julius Erving, Michael Jordan, and celebrity dunker in several contests, Michael Connely. The announcers were even asking each other if Sonny knew he didn't have to do a dunk that spectacular. Emmit Smith got a big kick out of it.
When asked by Holly with ESPN if he knew he didn't have to do it all Sonny had to say I got something left for you. In the first round he came from the left baseline and went between his legs in the air from his left hand to a right hand throw down. It was awesome! His final dunk after a miss in the finals, he came from the right baseline and went between his legs from his right hand to a left hand throw down. I think that was impressive just in that he did not favor one hand or one side to the other.
We all know that Sonny is one of the more athletic players on our team, but this just puts an exclamation point on what kind of an athlete that we had a priviledge to watch since he has been a HOG. The thing I was most impressed with is how he represented the HOGS and only showed any attitude when he made the competition winning dunk. Needless to say the SEC guys that were there for the 3 point shooting contest were all showing their SEC logos off on their jerseys. How sweet is that?
Congratulations Sonny and I think you woke up some of the NBA scouts with your athleticism. Thank you for representing the HOGS and the SEC with class. I can see you going within the first or second round.
I'm out!
