Well, the Hawks have officially been eliminated from the playoffs after Nashville's 3-2 victory over St. Louis this evening. Overall, I think it is safe to say that the season was a step in the right direction compared to our sickening past as of late. The fans have been coming back in droves (tomorrows game is sold out). I think this erases any doubts that Bill Wirtz turned off so many Hawks fans over the years to the point where 6,000 fans at a game was a good turn out. I think we got exactly what we expected from this team this year, a borderline playoff team that was competitive at least half of the games. Their downfall obviously was their inconsistancy and lack of experience, though. They had at least 2 or 3 huge losing streaks this year that ended up killing their playoff chances.
Now that we will soon be going into the offseason, it will be interesting to see what Dale Talon decides to add via free agency. It looks like Wisniewski may be gone, but they had better resign him because he's an important player on this team. Havlat has one more year left and it will be interesting to see if he is coming back. One player I won't mind seeing gone is Rene Bourque, although he did look a little better towards the end of the year. Habby will be back, and hopefully he can stay healthy because he is our best goalie. We'll see what happens, but it's look good for now.
