I like this alot. It builds up our OC schedule, plus it gives us some exposure to the west coast. Now if we can just dump that 1AA team on the 27th and play another DI school we would be all set.

Homecoming is going to sell out no matter who the opponent is, so I'm not necessarily against guaranteeing a win there.
Not to say I don't want a 1-A opponent, because I'd love to play USC on homecoming, but I'm not all that upset by one guaranteed win a year.

This is awesome. So much for the weak OOC schedule. Fresno St. was picked at #25 in some preseason polls. A win here will start us marching up the polls. A loss, and we can still win the Big East. Schiano and the boys better get ready to play fast. These guys will bring it, and love to knock off BCS teams. Here's their recent bowl history:
2007 Humanitarian Bowl Beat Geo. Tech 40-28
2005 Liberty Bowl Lost to Tulsa 31-24 (Kragthorpe's team)
2004 MPC Computers Beat Virginia 37-34
2003 Silicon Valley Beat UCLA 17-9
2002 Silicon Valley Beat Geo. Tech 31-20
This will be a war. I think these guys would smoke North Carolina if they played them

Word spreads fast. I was very much agaisnt this match up at first. But just like one gentleman already said, that's primarily because Rutgers gets no air time here out west.
After looking at things more closely, this is definitely a good thing from our perspective...plus, we moved the UCLA game to give us more prep time for Wisconsin.
Whoever wins this one to start the season will have some solid momentum right out of the gate. See you in September. :)

That's a great point. I think it shows that putting a strong team on the OOC schedule really is a net plus for Rutgers. We definitely have to take this game seriously...I think FSU is a better team then Maryland was last year, and look how that turned out. But, as you say, even if FSU does win Rutgers still has the opportunity to win the Big East, which all but guarantees a BCS game all by itself.
But, with this game instead of another 1-AA, I think its actually possible for us to lose the Big East and still have a remote shot at a BCS game. For example, lets say WVU has a year that some people are expecting and they run through their OOC schedule (which includes Auburn and Colorado) and the Big East. This will most likely put them in a NC Game. At the same time, if another Big East team...hopefully Rutgers, can have a similarly good year by going 11-1 (only loss from playing WVU) then having a good OOC schedule will put them in the running for an at large BCS appearance.
Now I am not saying all that is likely to happen, but by playing good teams it at least gives you the possibility. If Rutgers had played two 1-AA teams and went 11-1 with out only decent OOC games being UNC and Navy, I have to say it would be extremely unlikely they would be invited to BCS game.
In any event I am glad I was wrong (from the other thread) and Rutgers will play Fresno State. I think its a great match up and a heck of a way to start the season.

This is great news for RU. The prospect of playing two 1-AA's was embarashing, and this will be a boost to the OOC schedule while still being a winable game.

Ok, now that we know that FSU is going to New Jersey to open up it's '08 season lets look at a more serious issue now -- what uniformors to wear! I believe the Red Knight wear all red at home and FSU wears red pants, red helmets with white logo, and white jerseys. This is very similar to the Red Knights. This will be a tough adjustment on our eyes come game day.
Hope to see Fresno use more Blue in their Uni's that day.
