I think the committee put very strong 2 & 3 seeds in the East regional because they thought that Carolina had an advantage with no more than bus rides. I think that what's really bothering Pitino: the idea that Louisville got stuck in a regional where they have to beat Tennessee and the overall #1 seed just to get to the Final Four; the idea that they were sort of a pawn in the committee's chess game. I can see his point and I can see the committee's point. My suggestion is that the NCAA institute a policy that applies to everybody equally: The brackets will be set up so that no team will play in the Sweet 16 within a given distance (say 500 miles) of their campus. That way people won't complain about anybody's success being a result of an "unfair home court advantage" and the committee won't be putting the top #2 and possibly the top #3 in the same regional with the overall #1. This creates potential practical problems and may not be worth it in that sense. The committee is unlikely to adopt it. But it seems to me to be the most equitable way to address the issue.
