If our offense is improved over last season, and our run support is better than last year, I think Mark Buehrle and Javier Vazquez could each win 20 games this season. Buehrle has looked awesome this spring, and without the distraction of a contract hanging over his head, he can concentrate on pitching without all of the external distractions. And last season Javier started coming into his own, and started to look dominating. I think both pitchers are over due for a twenty win season.
Very true. The Bullpen will be the key to any Sox pitcher getting to 20 wins. But I think the bullpen is much improved over last season, which is part of the reason I think we could get a 20 win pitcher this season. And Buehrle is just over due for a 20 win season.
I'm with you on Broadway taking over for Floyd at some point during the early part of the season. I also think that Contrares is going to look much better this season...It's just a hunch.
I dont see it happening considering we still have a terrible bullpen and we still have a smilar offense with ?'s surrounding 3rd base, 2nd base, and center field. You cant have that many unknown variables coming out of spring training since the whole point of spring training is to answer those questions.
Since 1983 when Dotson and Hoyt each won 20, the Sox have had just one twenty game winner.Jack MsDowell twice in 92 & 93.
Hoping for 2 in one year from the same team is asking for an awful lot, it's happened once so far this decade with Shilling & Johnson in 01 with the D-backs.
On great teams this rarely happens, none of the Yankee teams from the 90s did it,only one of the Braves teams has ever done it, so to see the Sox staff pulling this one off is a tough one to project.
One 20 game winner this year, with this team, in that park, would be a tremendous accomplishment.
As for the question at hand, I don't see either winning 20, but 15 is a strong possibility. The bullpen has been known to cost wins by blowing leads (no shock to anyone following this team).
uffl...I'm glad one of us has faith in Contreras, because it's definitely not me.
I think the chance both will win 20 hangs on both staying healthy. They have as good a chance as any pitcher but I still see that the Sox may still miss the playoffs due to the other 3 starters. I wonder if thats ever happened. Two 20 game winners and the team still misses the playoffs.

Arbia78,
Yes it has happened, twice. In 1973 & 1974, ironically it happened in 73 when league leader Wilbur Wood 24-17 and Jim Kaat 21-13 led the Chicago White Sox to a 77-85 record and a fifth place finish in their 6 team western division. They were far ahead of the Texas Rangers (57-105 ) though.
The following year Wood and Kaat did it again with records of 24-20 and 20-14 for the 80-80 White Sox. for 4th in the division. Somehow the rangers went 84-76 that year with Fergie Jenkins winning 25.
It may have happened somewhere else along the way, but I didn't find it.
