My Sooner buddies are all happy to have Capel as the coach and all of them continue to thank Kelvin for leaving when he did.  Things could have gone very wrong if Mr. cell phone was still around.

It's a great move for Capel and OU.  Going to South Carolina (the OTHER Carolina) would likely have been career suicide for him, as they haven't had a consistently good program since the days when Frank McGuire coached there or when USC quit the ACC because they got their feelings hurt.  Dave Odom is an excellent coach, but even he couldn't quite get them over the hump.  OU has a very good young coach who has the skills and background to be a great coach, and it sounds as if he is also doing a great job recruiting.  I know Capel would love to come back to North Carolina (or at least the general area), but South Carolina tends to be a black hole for coaches in basketball and football.  It remains to be seen if even Steve Spurrier or whoever replaces Odom can get them to the top tier in either sport.
