K-State according to them isn't ready to play us yet -- at least not this year. In other words, they want to schedule a D2 school in order to build up some moral around that place before league play sttatrs for them. So they want out!!! Thay are also willing to pay out half-a-million dollars to do so. They also said they would do their best to find a suitable replacement for themselves.
That's where the Red (same as Scarlet) comes into the picture. Now, whether Fresno State's AD contacted them or someone at K-State did, I don't know. But Fresno State wanted that game to be for the soon to be vacant (maybe) slot of Sept. 6th, but Rutgers prefers the game to be on Sept. 27th, an open day for both.
Rutgers plays UNC on Thurs. Sept. 11th. So the oppenant in this case, UNC would have 2 extra days to prepare for Rutgers because of the short week. Which means Fresno State would then say, "O.kay, so that your not at any disadvantage, we'll play you on the day you prefer, Sept. 27th."
I'd say make K-State have to play us, because if we were down and out right now and they were big, bad and tough now or at any other time, they would not show any simpathy towards us. So I hope this doesn't go through. Nothing against the Scaarlet Knights, but I think they need us more now than we need them.
Here's a look at the potential non-conference schedule if K-State taps-out. I don't like the idea of us opening WAC play against Hawai'i after returning home from a cross country flight the week before. I'd prefer the BYE week in between our Non-Conf. and the start of WAC play.
Game 1 Aug. 30th @ UCLA
Game 2 Sept. 6th BYE (formely K-State)
Game 3 Sept.13th vs. Wisconsin
Game 4 Sept. 20th @ Toledo
Game 5 Sept. 27th @ Rutgers (formely BYE)
Game 6 Oct. 4th Hawaii (WAC play begins after)
