Do Red Sox & Yank Players Really hate each Other?

nasty had a great excert from  one of his blogs and I know that back in the late 60's ,  and in the 70's, these two teams ahted each other. Pitchers were even able to bean another player and NOT get thrown out of the game

Today, yep the rivalry is still great and the fights have been there, Zimmer, A Rod, Tek', Pedro, but I see more mingling between the players in pre game scenes and during rain delays which tend to tell me it's all a media hype to get these guys to egg on the rivalry even more

here's an  phrase by Joe Torre in 05' that might make a LOT of us laugh:

“I used to look forward to these series with the Red Sox, but not anymore,” said Yankees skipper Joe Torre. “In the old days it was just two great teams that really didn’t like each other going at it. Now the whole thing seems a little staged. I’ve even got the Fox people telling me to get involved in the fighting. granted, we'll never see Tek' & A Rod talk again but it's been shown many a time that Ortiz and Jeter and Manny and many other yans get along

In general I would say no.  I think that with players changing team so often now, they don't identify as solidly with any one team as players used to, so they don't have the same sense of rivalry.  Also, I don't think many young players today have the real knowledge of all of the history of the game as past players did. 

Just a gut feeling from someone far removed on the West Coast though.

Cano, Melky, Manny, and Ortiz are all very close. The Dominican blood overrides all.

I think the Yankees can't stand Youkalis, because he bitches about everything. I think that was why Joba buzzed him last season. I don't think Beckett likes Joba too much. LOL, but yet, Buchholz and Joba are supposedly tight.

Nah, this ain't the Nettles/Lee/Munson/Fisk days anymore, Buck.

I think the old hatred of Munson and Fisk etc, has given way to fierce rivalry, just strong competition.  They want to beat eachothers brains in, just in a baseball context now, not a fist-a-cuffs sense.  There will always be spats between teams that face eachother 19 times a year, just look at the history the Sox have had with the Rays, and now the new animosity between the Yanks and the Rays as examples.

ahhh, Josh is the type that I believe holds a grudge, lol.. is that right though about C.B. and Joba?

Beckett was on the top of the dugout step calling Joba a "F*cking C*nt" after the second pitch went over Youkalis' head last fall.

According to a story I read, Joba and Buchholz got to be buddies when they were at the Futures (minor league allstar) game last year, and they keep in touch. Don't know if that's changed since "the episode"

It's more the fans hate each other because yankee fans think their team is the best and Sox fans wanna prove them wrong.
