The Lakers are not known for their stellar defense......its like putting down the Spurs and their horrible offense. Well its not horrible, its just that theyre known to concentrate and win games on the defensive end, not score 110 a game.

Hornets when everyone is healthy can be as tough as anyone in the NBA. CP and West are about as good as its gets.

Once again. You don't judge defense by points allowed. What an idiot. You judge defense by opponents FG% and point differential. Teams play different styles. A team like the Cavs who walk the ball up the court and milk and the shot clock....so there's less opportunities to score. It doesn't mean that a good defense team it mean there coach wants them to slow the game down. They allow oppts to make 45.6% of there shots. And there point differential isn -0.3 which is terrible. A team like the Lakers or Warriors ran the court and take quick shots. Which leads to more possessions, which leads to a higher score. I hate the Lakers. I can't stand them but I can't stand ignorant basketball fans even more. The Lakers are the 3rd best defensive team in the league. If not the 1st. Oppts are shooting 44% against them and scoring 6.8pts more than there oppts. Boston, Detriot are still up there but they're not playing against the Warriors, Suns, Nuggets and Jazz every other night. Teams who can score with the best of them.

Exactly D- pizzle. The Boston and Lakers dynasties both gave up over 110 points per game!!! They just averaged 123 or more/ game!!! it is all about points per posession.

I AM A Spurs HOMER...so....
I think the Spurs having the third best defense playing in the West is even more impressive than Detroit or Boston.
The Spurs have to play 4 games each against some of the most high octane teams in the league like Phoenix, LA, Denver, and Golden State.
I think most of the highest scoring teams are in the West.
.............
I am not saying the Spurs will win it all .....due to their sometimes anemic offense they can be beaten....
But they are still the defensive standard when you factor in the unbalanced schedule of doing it against high octane Western teams.

Please don't be a tool and use flawed statistics for your arguments. In points scored per 100 possesions (a way better stat to use for predictions) the Lakers are third in the league at 114.1 per game. In defense they are fifth in the league at 106.7 per 100 possesions. While the Celtics are tenth and first respectively.
So you can see that the Lakers are a defensive team, it if hard to be one at the moment when all of your centers are out though. Next time use useful statistics please.

But they are still the defensive standard when you factor in the unbalanced schedule of doing it against high octane Western teams.Part of having a great defense is making teams play your style. I haven't had the chance to look at anyones numbers in particular, but if you claim to be a good defensive team and teams are running you out of the gym, you have to take that into consideration.

The ten best defensive teams in the nba are Celtics,Spurs, Pistons,Rockets, Hornets. Did u see what the celtics did to the Suns last night the celtics look impressive right now. I think they could a NBA title if they keep playing like there playing.

The Bulls have no defense this year and they have a lot of injury's on the team. Plus they traded players they should not have traded like Ben Wallace the bulls have shot them selfs in the foot this year.

of course, homerism plays a key role in picking a title contender. And it's not just toward a team, but toward players you like too. It's just hte way these predictions will work. Problem is, debates on the subject involve way too much speculation. People saying well as soon as this guy comes back from injury we'll be the best and the deepest team and someone else saying well my team will bring it up in the playoffs so even your team has the better record I have the better team or a third person saying we beat you in the regular season matchup so we are better than you etc, etc, etc....
The reason why Lakers and Pistons are the favorites on the CBS board is because they have the most fans posting here. LA is a basketball first town, as the Lakers have been the most successful franchise there in recent years. In Detroit, the Tigers have only recently emerged as a contender while the Lions are a perennial joke. There's the Wings, probably the best team in hockey over the past 10 years, but I dunno, I'm not sure how popular hockey is in Detroit. Point is, there are a lot of Pistons and Laker fans on these boards, as these are big cities whose sports fans are basketball fans first.
What other big city that currently has a contender can say this? Houston perhaps, as the Astros have hit hard times lately. Certainly not Boston, whose fans would much rather gloat about how great Belichick is during the offseason than talk about the Celtics. Cleveland maybe, though i think their fans focus more on the Indians.
I'm rambling here. I'll post other options as I think of them. But, really the board has a lot of Pistons and Lakers fans as these are large cities and basketball-first sports communities.

SportsFreak24--Your posts are really hard to read. Not because they are not good posts or anything, its just that every time I try to read them, my eye gaze seems to keep wandering to the left.
