He is so dead on with his analysis of games, and does not ever do anything to "Hype" himself like so many of these pundits. It irritates me how that buffoon Seth Davis needles him at every turn.
I would like to see a guy like Jay Bilas work with Clark on the broadcast. Both are excellent and can add unique perspective to the games as not only former players, but real students of the game.
How Davis got this job is beyond me. His predictions are awful, and he adds nothing to the pre game, halftime or postgame broadcast. Just go back to your Blog, you A-hole.
Greg Gumbel is terrific at playing traffic cop for the broadcast. CBS has really improved there coverage over the last few years. The way they kept going back and forth from the Tenn/Butler and Davidson/G-Town games on Sunday was awesome. We got to witness two great finishes almost simultaneously. Well done!!

I agree, he is one of the few "talking heads" that just gives you an informed analysis without trying to make a name for himself by making some outlandish predictions without breaking down the game.

I'm with you. Having to read Doyel and Parrish all the time it's a breath of fresh air to read Kellog. He know's what he's talking about, and he tells it like it is without having to suffer through a god complec or an agenda while being informed. Keep up the good work Clark!

What's wrong with Seth Davis? On Friday he predicted that at least 5 double-digigt seeds would when after Kellog boringly (and as usual) said all the favorites would win including him really likeing Siena and W Ky. Guess what? Seth was 100% on the money.
Don't get me wrong, I love Clark Kellog and his analyses also always include a very calm, and even kiel demeanor (he's great as a guest on radio shows like Sirius's Rivals Radio) I think CBS could do all tv viewers a favor by making he and Gus Johnson as their number one announcing crew, Clark is so lame when it comes to pciking anything but the favorites.

I agree with all of you. He just states the facts and does not include bias.
All I need are just the facts. I can draw my own conclusion from facts.

Davis is the worst at predicting games, the last three years, I am pretty sure he had Memphis out in the second round, (though this year, he was close) and I think he said Drake would go all the way to at least the sweet 16, he is a buffoon! That's what happens when you graduate from Duke I guess. haha
Good one ericmanon! Good post!

Great commentary on Seth Davis. I could not agree more. He is basically a waste of TV time.

Maybe Clark can take Dennis Dodd under his wing and try to teach him to be an analyst instead of being such an idiot all of the time. Oh wait, that would be an impossible task for anybody...

ericmamon,
I have to agree with you on your assessment of Clark Kellog. He's been consistently good for many many years (and was a great player in college too) and I don't know why CBS doesn't have him doing the whole tourney, championship game included. He's second to none covering college ball. Believe it or not as a Tarheel fan I definitely like Jay Bilas as well (hated him when he played at Duke). I like that Bilas is completely unbiased and wasn't afraid to criticize in person just how soft he thought his alma maters front line was all season and praised Carolina enough to pick them to win it all (I know he's caught major heat for that). That kind of unbiased commentary is sorely missing from the butt kissing love affairs of listening to Billy Packer and Dickey V and Seth "I Can't Believe I'm Doing This For A Living" Davis. I also liked Gus Johnson as well. Gus commentates excitement in these games like he was on the couch with us watching in excitement. That kind of talent you just can't teach.

Drake wasn't such a bad call -- they lost on a last-second three from 30 feet out in overtime. if not for that, I think they would have weathered San diego in rd. 2.

i will agree that clark doenst go for the hype, like most of the guys do. Mr. vitale for instance, am i the only person who thought that the best thing thats happened to college basketball, since the 85 expansion to 65 teams, was when dickie V lost his voice? man was a GREAT 1st half of the season. oh well. i would love to see kellog and bilas do a game together, that would be truley amazing. mr vitale and packer can go make more sweet love to the damn ACC.
if i have to pick an issue w/ kellog though, its that he picks a bracket like my mother-in-law would. the higher seed always wins. im just glad hoops arent THAT boring, or im affraid i'd stop watching. this is a good article.

And my Michigan State Spartans would've lost to Temple and not be playing Memphis in a very winnable Sweet 16 if it worked out for Seth Davis and his terrible predictions

Clark Kellogg is the only positive on the CBS team.
In regards to CBS coverage of the tournament, do we really need to see the last 30 seconds of a 10+ point lead, while a more interesting game is taking place. I find myself screaming at the TV when the losing team fouls, down 10+ points, and I realize that CBS refuses to switch games.
Very disappointing. But the basketball has been great. GO BIG EAST!

Becksmeagol, i couldnt agree more that CBS has kept on some blowouts and games that are mathematically over while some really good games are being played but not televised...it seems this year its happened more times than in the past, but i could be wrong...
I really like clark kellogg, i think he is very knowledgable about the game and offers a very unbiased opinion, and i think seth davis is an idiot, but that is what makes watching cbs, college game day, etc...fun. If they just told us the scores and made no predictions, no upsets, and no commentary at all about who they think is good or not good, it'd be boring....that is why we watch that stuff, to see what some idiot has to say, and when he says something we dont agree with, we like yelling at the TV and saying, "that guys an idiot", so even though seth davis might be a moron, he is a good complement to Clark.

Gotta disagree, Becks. I love Clark as well, but he isn't the only positive on the CBS team. No props on this board yet for Mr. Bill Raftery. Love that guy. He's so entertaining and he brings enthusiasm to every broadcast. He and Clark would make a great dynamic duo, although Gus Johnson is pretty kick-ass too.
Gotta agree about Seth Davis. I enjoy reading him in Sports Illustrated, he's quite a good writ | |
