I never and probably never will trust Paul Sullivan from the Chicago Tribune, I can't trust him as far as I can throw him, but according to him the Cubs deal to acquire Brian Roberts is dead, at least for now. Reason is the both the Cubs and Orioles could not agree with players. Again I don't trust him, he does quote Andy McPhail, but he also said the Cubs were going to get Erik Bedard and that never happened, I'm glad the drama is over with if the deal is dead, but It's a shame that we lost out in a good player. I'm okay with Ryan Theriot and Mark DeRosa, so o well.

I'm fine with those guys as well, I think Andy is asking to much but who cares, I think he did it on purpose.

Well, now that it has been reported that the deal is dead, maybe it will actually happen.

lol, like Jo said, look for the deal to be done by tonight! I think this is good, not necessarly because we don't get roberts, but just to put the talks to rest. The trade rumors cant be good for camp and hopefully now the guys can go out there and do their jobs without these rumors still lingering.

I agree 100% with Northsiders,  This is probably the best news as of yet with all these trade rumors.  Atleast now it will settle our guys down entering the season and let us get off to a hott start.  Brian Roberts is not going anywhere so we still may end up with him closer to trade deadline as the Orioles get desperate and have to part with him.  Honestly I think Hendry is conjuring somthing else, maybe we land some bigger and more prominent players at the deadline.  All in all for our division we have the strongest club and are maybe 2 pieces away from overcoming any obstacles in our way.

I agree I think that the Cubs are very close to winning it all, personally I think that we need another proven starter. That's about all we could ask for, Ryan Theriot is looking good as a lead-off man and Alfonso Soriano might play out as the guy in the number two hole. We went out and got that power hitting left handed bat in Kosuke Fukudome, I think that were in good shape. All that talent that the Orioles wanted we were much better off not getting Brian Roberts and maybe we might get someone like C.C Sabathia in a blockbluster trade.

I wish the Cubs could have found a way to get Brian Roberts from the Orioles but let's close that chapter and move on.  If it happens later on, fine and if it doesn't, that's fine too.  I know everybody likes Mark DeRosa but he had a horrible spring and he's nowhere near the player of BRob.  BUt he's our 2nd baseman.  The only player that makes no sense to me of making the club was Fontenot.  He's limited in where he can play (hmmmm Matt Murton), has a weak arm and not much offense.  I personally think Alex Cintron earned that spot.

Alex Cintron had a freak accident when Mark DeRosa hit him in the face with a foul ball, and then he hurt his hamstring, although he had a good spring the injuries is what caused him to lose his spot. I don't think that Ronny Cedeno should have made the roster, but he did have a good spring, personally I like Mike Fontenot, god forbid, but if DeRosa were to play 3rd or any other position on the team if someone gets an injury or he gets hurt Fontenot and Ryan Theriot cover the middle of the infield good, and besides that they've played together a long time.

All I can say is F McPhail and the O's hope they enjoy there annual last place spot while they end up with nothing for Roberts!!!

First off, I wouldn't ever trust anyone in the Cubs media department to speak the truth. I'm fine with what we have in that spot anyway and think our infield is a strength. The trade I wish would have happened is the Erik Bedard trade. I think we could have got him cheaper with lower trades. I also think that trade is something we need more than the Roberts one. As it is now we have Rich Hill (who's been getting bombed in ST and didn't have a solid ending last season) as one of our lefties but Erik Bedard could have filled that roll well. It's water under the bridge though so who cares. I think the pickup of Reed Johnson was alright, although I think there could have been someone better but he can play all the OF spots. It helps us with an OF rotation and gives us a little insurance if something happens. I think the Cubs will be able to get some good guys during the season and can use some minor leaguers as trade bait. We had a bunch of those guys who we sent down palying great spring ball. If they can keep it up they'll turn some heads and create some good trades if we need them. I can't wait to get things started.

Well, at least something "actually happened." I've been reading a lot lately about how sometimes the best deals are the ones that are not made and this may just be one such scenerio. Brian Roberts is a great talent, no doubt, but he's not really that big of a need anymore I don't think. I like the job Ryan Theriot has done hitting leadoff and our farm system is still in place. Good job by Hendry to stand pat if that's truely what happened and not do anything stupid like the Mariners did and give up everything in your farm system for one player. This is a good Cubs team and now we still have pieces in place to add at the deadline if we need to. Let the rumors die and let's go out on Monday and sweep the Brewers!

First of all, this is not the time of the year to be trying to pull off a big trade in the first place. I mean, how many major trades have happened at the end of spring training? You can probably count them on your nose.

As for right now, I'm quite fine with our middle infield. However, I do feel that, as the season goes on, we will likely need to upgrade  the area because I'm not sold on Mark DeRosa's health or Ronny Cedeno's viability. My guess is Brian Roberts will still be on the market by then, as the Orioles have historically been difficult trade partners due to their meddlesome owner.

For everyone lamenting about not getting Roberts, DeRosa was third on the team in RBI's last year.  Hey I would love to have Brian Roberts and his roid induced bat and legs blazing arond the infield at Wrigley, but having to "settle" for DeRosa's bat and Theriot's glove up the middle doesn't suck
