Take a look at the standings, the East has 3 teams that are more than 1 game over .500, and two teams have already clinched playoff spots, one of them a division. In the West, you have NOBODY who has clinched a playoff spot, despite two teams that are 27 games over .500 and several others not far behind them.

I think Boston and Detroit are capable of beating any team from the West in the Finals, but the rest of the conference just plain sucks. I am a Bucks fan, so I know losing, but it keeps getting worse each year.

Amazing.

Yeah, the east sucks! It's terrible! My Nuggets would be clinching a playoff berth if they were in the Eastern Conference.

Let's go Nuggets!

The thing that REALLY sucks is the team that  "survives" in the West will most likely be so beat up that they will have a difficult time beating the Celtics or Pistons in the finals. The Lakers, when healthy, are the best team in the West and probably in the entire league. Their starting 5 are as good as anyone and their bench is EASILY the best and deepest. However, they, along with the rest of the West, are going to have a battle every game of the playoffs. Boston and Detroit will have a "cake-walk" until they meet each other in the Eastern finals.

I am looking forward to watching the playoffs. It's gonna be awesome.

By the way, LAKERS over CELTICS in 6.

You setup your prediction of the NBA finals by saying that whoever survives from the west will be too beat up to be successful THEN you pick a western conference team.  Which is it?  Either lay off the weed or think before you spew your thoughts into a message.

Celtics (sweep) over San Antonio.

wiscgc-

I'm not sure how you are doing your math but if you take the best team in the east which are the Celtics and take the best team in the west, the Hornets, the Celtics are 20 games over .500 and the Hornets are 14 games over .500.

To come up with a true amount of games over .500 you have to add the total games played divided by 2 and subtract the amount of wins by that number. For example the Celtics have played 70 games, divided by 2 is 35, they have 55 wins so they are 20 games over .500. With that said, there are no teams in the west that are 27 games over .500.

I'm not disagreeing with the fact that the west is a stronger conference than the east but I think your math is off. I just wanted to throw my two cents in.

OK, that's another way to look at it, fair enough.

But then figure in who Boston has played, they play the East more than the West so they get help there in nbr of games won. Granted, they still do well against West teams, but their record is a bit inflated by how poor the overall East is.

Any way you look at it, the overall East just sucks outside of 2 teams.

Its been that way for a while now. The east always has a couple of contenders playing a bunch of horrible teams. The west is very competitive, and has been for several years.

Yeah, the East hasn't really been competitive since MJ's 2nd retirement in 1998

The east really does suck.  I dont see anyone really discrediting the Pistons/Celtics and you can't really discredit what they are doing.  The Celtics are 24-5 against the west the pistons are 20-8.

The bottom 5-6 teams from each conference provide about 35-40 easy games to the top teams in both conferences.

the top east teams have 15-20 more easy games on top of that.  and at most probably have about 5-6 more wins than they would have would have in the west.  since they are probably going getting 15 or 16 wins in their 20 extra easy games instead of the 10 they might go otherwise.  who knows maybe they still are as good in terms of wins.
