What do you guys think about Tyler Yates going to the Pirates for a minor leaguer (Todd Redmond)?

Good move, at least we got something for him and being a young player, maybe this Redmond kid can turn into something. I've never heard of him before. Anyone know anything about him?

I have never heard of him. Hopefully it will work out for us in the long run. The Braves love to get young guys.

part of the MLB story reads this about Redmond.
Redmond combined to go 8-13 with a 4.39 ERA in 28 starts with Double-A Altoona and Class A Lynchburg last year. The 22-year-old right-hander, who has a highly regarded changeup, was named the best control pitcher in the Pirates organization by Baseball America. He will likely begin this season with Double-A Mississippi.
I have no idea why the pirates would make this move. I mean they have to be close to the bottom of the waiver list, and if they waited a day or so they could've probably picked him up for free. Makes me wonder how much Redmond is worth, but hey, something is better than nothing.
Now for a package of Thorman, Pena, Resop for a power bat ;-)
Go Braves '08!!!

I don't know much about this guy Redmond, but baseball america appointed him the best change up in the minors, so that is quite a compliment.
Here is what I dug up on him:
6'3", 185 lbs
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
Born: May 17, 1985
Career stats over three seasons in the minors:
9-15, 70 G, 69 GS, 392 IP, 365 H, 174 R, 143 ER, 89 BB, 318 K, 3.28 ERA
My analysis- Young guy who looks promising. Hasn't really had much work considering he has only pitched 392 innings. However I do looove his walks to strikeouts ratio. very nice indeed. It'll be interesting to see how well he grows in the Braves farm system as opposed to pittsburgh's.
All-in-all I'd say it was a good trade. Yates would have been gone anyways. Props to Frankie Wren pulling this one off. He knows we're going to need some promising starting pitching in the years to come. Hampy will be gone after this year, Glavine has said this may be his last year and although Smoltzie looks invincible, Johnnie Smokin' Smoltz will eventually retire..i think.

Yeah, I was surprised to see that we made a trade with the Pirates. They must have really wanted him for some reason. He sounds like a good prospect so it is really confusing to see this deal. Most of the comments I have read from Pirates fan shows that they are mostly pretty upset about this deal. I guess thats Pirates management for you.

Good move. Heck, I would've been okay with just releasing Yates. He's OK, but I think Boyer can have a real impact this year. Glad to hear we got someone decent in return. You never know when someone is going to make the jump, so it's always good to stock-pile young arms. Frank Wren hasn't made a big splash this off-season, but every move he's made has had low-risk-high reward written all over it(I don't consider the Renteria deal a splash since it was really just clearing the way for Lillibridge/Escobar).

I agree that something is better than nothing but this kid seems to have some promise. I would have to say it was a good trade.

considering Tyler Yates wasn't going to make the team anyway, we practicly stole this guy from the Pirates. Frankie Wren was definitely taking notes on Scheurholz' ways

I do like this move as I wasn`t a big Yates fan anyways but when Gonzo returns he would prolly be gone even he he made the team now so in return we get a nice prospect as we continue to stockpile Bravo style for the years to come.Just loading up for another 14 year run I suppose!

Great move. Yates was way to inconsistent. He has great stuff but couldn't be a true releiver as he always needed to be fresh as a starting pitcher. I'm happy with what the Braves got in return, someone that might be a piece to the puzzle in a few years.
That's one thing about the braves, they always seem to get someone talented in return.
Did everyone see that Salty was optioned to the minors yesterday?

Yates is going to be 31 in a few months so he is definitely not going to be a huge contributor to your future plans. He has done well in Pittsburgh so far (still issuing too many walks) but maybe a change of scenery will do him some good.
