91 game six puckets catch of the glass than his walk off solo shot in the bottom of the ninth("and we'll see you tomorow night"). Then game 7 black jack amazing!
Tough choice - 87 i was there and in 91 I was in Germany and being there is much different than watching on TV. I can still see the last out in 87 over and over again in my mind. But watching 91, Game 7, will go down as one the best games/pitching duels ever. With a great outcome to boot!
Winning it all in 2008 will be a true miracle more than 87 or 91 ever was.
Gotta give the edge to 91, a game 6 to remember, and then a 10 inning shut out pitching effort in game 7! It will go down as the greatest World Series ever in my book...
My vote goes for '91. Every game was a battle. I still get chills when I hear a replay of Jack Buck saying "we'll see ya tomorrow night." And hearing about Puckett telling his teammates to get on his back because he is going to carry them. Only to have a game saving catch and a game winning homerun. Or the gem pitched by Jack Morris. That series is hard to beat. It is one of the best ever.
I voted for 1987, it was the first and it was so much fun I still get goose bumps thinking about it. 1991 may have been a better series but 1987 was the best for me, it was new and amazing, i'm 39 years old and was 19 at the time and no Minnesota team had ever won a Championship in my life. as much as I loved the 1991 series 1987 will always be my favorite.
I gotta go with Nosferotu on this one. The Puckett catches and the Morris complete game were so incredibly exciting. However, in 1987 I had never experienced what it was like having your team in the World Series. The Cards seemed to have a much better team but yet the Twins won and shocked the world.
I remember as a kid watching the 91' Series and remembering Game 6 and 7 the most. Puckett to us to a new level in game 6 and Jack Morris did something I don't think any other pitcher could do in a game like that. So it has to be the 91" Series because that will have to go down as the top 3 of all time.
2008 won't be our next World Series, but I sure hope its sooner rather than later. I sure would like to see another one and have the chance to see it in person.
87 - 91...both incredible experiences.
I was a sixth grader...sitting in left field next to my mom...couple of rowdy Cardinal fans sitting on the other side of me. Hrbek's grandslam shut them up.
No one has responded or touched on the 2008 but 25% voted for it...i have to give the nod to the '91--that is a World Series that has been and will be shown again and again in MN but also throughout the nation. Puckett is baseball immortality and I love watching those highlights. They just make me smile and hope for excitement to come with our new young guns!
It was funny you should post this poll. I just purchased and watched the highlight tapes for both '87 and '91 recently. I got to say I got teary eyed seeing Puck waddling around the bases.
For me '91 was the best. I was an 11 year old kid in the very upper rows of the upper deck for game 7. Right and Center fields could not be seen from our seats, so when Larkin got the game winning hit I could not see the ball land. But we knew the outcome based on the explosive roar from the crowd. I have never again experienced such a level of excitement from so many people and the noise in the Dome was deafening. The single greatest moment of my life.
Although I know a new stadium is needed and it will be great to have outdoor baseball in Minnesota, because of that moment I will shed a tear when the Twins leave the Dome.
