TrojanLuver1, I agree with your statements and thank you for having the guts to take the unpopular stance. I think that Duke has become the Yankees of College Basketball. It is a simple equation: Duke is a perennial contender. Duke wins too much. Other fans become jealous. Jealousy turns to hatred. I will also give Dicky V credit for fueling some of the Duke hatred. He is so over the top that he can really get under your skin. Luckily I live in Raleigh, NC and I can turn on the local radio coverage when ever he is covering an ACC game.
Jealousy is actually envy (although most Duke-haters wont admit it). How come nobody hates UCSB or North Carolina A&T? Because they do not represent a threat to beat one's favorite team.
I can fully understand in-conference rivalries, and the strong emotions involved. But why does a fan of an SEC or PAC 10 team have such hatred for a team outside of their conference? I saw a poll on CBSsports.com where 75% of voters said they were glad Duke got beat. I know the entire 75% of voters were not all Tarheel fans so I can only assume there were a lot of fans out there not wanting to face Duke in the Tourny. Thanks for the post TrojanLuver1.
