so far im loving what Barnes and the longhorns are doing against Austin Peay....but i really think Barnes needs to put Mooney, Lewis and all the other guys who dont play that much in the game so the guys dont get tired/hurt/ w/e...and we can use them later

man...7 mins left in the 2nd half and texas leads by 20+ and neither JD Lewis, Matt Hill, Mooney, hasnt touched the court yet....thats horrible...the first round and killing the team and the subs cant even play 1 minute...im really starting to question Barnes coaching ability now..

i mean you guys say we dont have a bench and i agree we really dont have a great bench...but if thats true...if we are up by 20+ with 6 mins left...why even take a chance leaving DJ AJ and Damion in there when they could get hurt and miss the whole Tourny? i mean how hard is it to put in subs for 4 mins?

I do see your point on that one.
I also have to give props to Austin Peay for playing scrappy and lively through to the end. We were up by 30, and they closed it to the teens, as we began to look a little bit tired and started missing shots.
It was a dominant performance by Texas, but we are only going to play better teams, with less margin for error. I hope that the Horns can dig deep.
Texas!... Fight!

Agreed but they did start to come back. This tourney schedule favors our limited bench more than the big 12 tourney did though. That was 3 games in 3 days. We'll get a day off now and then 4 days off to prepare for the sweet 16. This is pretty much what we did all season playing on saturday/sunday and then monday/tuesday.

I watched Miami play a few times this season and I wasn't impressed one bit with them. McClinton is the best you have and beating Duke by one point is no great accomplishment. Duke almost got bounced in the first round. It might be close in the first half but Miami doesn't have the talent to play with the Horns. Good try though!!

Miami stands no chance of beating the longhorns I'm even going to say that they will lose worse than Austin Peavy lost to us

Mason will have the duty of shutting down McClinton and hopefully can do a great job on him. Hook 'em Horns!

my bad wesuppers. didn't mean that comment to overlook the hurricanes. any team can beat another. it was more in reply to the thread and commenting on how a limited bench isn't as big of a deal as in a conference tourney.

We have a recent problem that needs addressing if we are goin to get to the final four, and that is Augustin's inablility to close games out. As a point you need to shut down games with solid free throws and getting into the lane to draw fouls down the stretch. Ford did it when the horns went to the big show years back and Augustin was doing it earlier this year, but this game, vs Kansas, and a baylor game earlier in the year, Augustin has not looked like himself in the last 3 or 4 minutes. The game today should not have been within 7 points entering the last minute, even though a 17% 3 pt shooter did drain two threes back to back to even make it what it was.
Dont get me wrong, I love Augustin's play 99% of the time and think he is the best point in the country and the only reason why this team is where its at, but if we are going to take Stanford and Memphis/Mich ST, we will need to shut teams down when we have the chance. Allowing them to get within 5 with a minute left in March Madness is a ticket to game ending heroics. We have seen Augustin go through FT slumps before, but we are going to need him to be damn near perfect to end up in Houston and then in the big dance. Overall dominating play by the horns today for 35 minutes and if we shut down teams like having a great point should allow then i dont see any team that we cant take including UNC.

doesn't really matter but Hicks the 17 percent 3 point shooter didnt make 2 threes back to back.he only made one to make it 74-72..Dews made the one before to make it 72-69

I got u, the announcer screwed up then, I couldnt tell who it was. He just said that Hicks hit AGAIN from outside, but moot point now, great effort from the canes, they could have easily given up with 6 minutes left, but they almost got back into it.
