Yes, let's compare such powerhouses as ASU and UA women's soccer. "Complete and thorough"??? How did ASU do in men's and women's golf? Track? Oh, left those out. Softball? Arizona won the national championship. Swimming...yeah, national champs at Arizona. Guess you were only looking at the first 2 months of 2008...?
Remind me again...is the objective for Arizona to slum with ASU or win national recognition? Because even in losing to WVU in men's basketball, Arizona captured about 1000 times more eyeballs than ASU did in its three (and no more) games in the NIT. My guess is there were 50-80 times as many future recruits watching Arizona as there were watching ASU. But it might have been more.
So anyway, hey, how about those Gators, huh? Interesting how a #72 RPI team can beat a #83...must be some kind of black magic. Here's a hint, ASU: you might want to think about playing some double-digit RPI teams in your pre-season next year if you would like to be considered for the NCAA tourney. Otherwise, stop whining. And stop trying to trump up some silly numbers to make yourselves feel good about being Arizona's #2 in academics and nearly every Olympic sport.
ASU will get there in basketball, thanks to Sendek, and as a Wildcat fan I look forward to the day when Pac 10 teams fear playing at Arizona the state and not just the university.

This is the worst trash talk in the history of NCAA athletics. First, that these are your go-to sports. Second, it still isn't good enough. We are even better at softball now. Track? Our men's and women's teams both just won National Championships.

Well, i'm back from the ASU loss to FLA and the 2 NCAA games last night.
First thing, I commend ASU for a good season -- cannot wait until the 2008 - 2009 season to get here!
As for the loss to FLA, too many missed open looks, poor zone defense and great FLA shooting/rebounding will do you in each and every time. Hopefully these young Devils will use this game learning experiece and get over it quick like.
GOOD JOB SUN DEVILS !! GREAT JOB MR. SENDEK !!

You can trash talk, but I'm offering facts. Let me try to be clear: Arizona does better than ASU at the sports that matter and that garner national and world-wide attention. There, the longest word in that sentence had 9 letters.
If you'd like to compare head-to-head records, knock yourself out. That and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee.
We don't even need to begin on the topic of basketball. No one (even from ASU) would debate the national and global attention Arizona's former players receive. Again, my sincere hope is that some day ASU enjoys this kind of history.
Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam (world #1 and #2) went to the U of A, and that's what people read and see when they win. That's the point here...how Arizona and ASU do against each other means nothing on the world stage. Name one ASU golfer in the top 10. ASU's big savior, Grace Park, is currently ranked 192. (On the men's side, Tiger (Stanford) owns everyone so the debate's moot, but Mickelson (ASU), Sabbatini and Furyk (UofA) can compete for 2nd.)
Wanna knock softball? Perhaps you need to understand first that Arizona's coach (Mike Candrea) is on sabbatical this season so that he can coach the women's Olympic team in Beijing. That and about a third of this year's Olympic team play or played for Arizona. So "even better" might be relative to how ASU was last year, but certainly won't hold up against Arizona in the long run.
Swimming? Amanda Beard, U of A swimmer. Both the men and women just won the national championships. Plan to see many names this summer connected to the U of A. ASU's men placed 18th, and I can't even find mention of how the women did. Probably not a good sign.
Again: Arizona does better than ASU at the sports that matter and that garner national and world-wide attention.

Roverfish,
You win, U of A's WOMEN'S sports (in your opinion, the sports that matter) have been very impressive over the years. As I'm watching the Olympics this year.......I will try my best not to turn the channel when swimming and softball are on, just so I can see all of the U of A grads.
