Toronto appears to have a solid 5 of starting pitching. However, it is unrealalistic to think that they will all be able to make it through the year without any injuries. Right now depth after this 5 looks awful. Chacin would be the next in but he appears to be on the decline and is incredibley injury prone. After that what's next? Ricky Romero? I love the Bluejays starting 5 but to make it to the playoffs we are going to need to discover even more young starting talent to make the playoffs.
Go Bluejays.

Yea now with Janssen down the rotation does not look as deep anymore.

I think Chacin is done.   He has injury trouble and he doesn't go deep into games.  He reminds me of Ted Lilly a bit except without the strikeouts.   Chacin racks up a high pitch counts, doesn't have much stuff, walks too many people and serves up the long ball too often.

Jesse Litsch reminds me a bit of Chacin because they don't have any stuff.  Jesse has more control, but don't be surprised if Litsch's career follows Chacin's.  Chacin had a great 2005 and hasn't come close since.

I think David Purcey is the first in line when the first starter goes down.   He better step up this year after screwing around in the minors for 3+ years.   i don't think Romero is ready and they don't really have anyone after that.

Jays fan unfortunatley I agree with almost everything you just said. Chacin is done. Litsch was good last year but I don't know if he can match that success. I sure hope so. The only thing he has on Chacin is something called mechaniqes. Go Bluejays!

Well guys. Relax. We did suffer a little bit of a blow with jansenn. I don't know how litsch is gonna do but I think he's a compitant 5 starter for now. Also, brian wolf is and has stated he'd like to be a starter and has great stuff. We got purcy and if wolf let the pen it wouldn't hurt too much cause our pen is so deep. Or even Scott Downs. Could fill in here and then just as marcum did last year. So, rest assure our pitching did take a blow but we have enough in the tank to deal with the guys in our league. Look at the Yankees. They have 2 decent starters and are relying on the moose. And 2 rookies and igawa. We could look like that. Thank god we don't. Or look at boston. For what its worth. They only have beckett. And he's only had one really good year in his career and that's last year. They're gonna depend on lester, wakefield, tavaras. And colon who's washed up it seems. So look on the bright side. At least we are deep.

don't be surprised if Litsch's career follows Chacin's.

I'd be a bit surprised. Jesse Litsch has one thing that Gustavo Chacin never had: a bulldog mentality. Keep in mind that Jesse was only 22 years old when he became an emergency starter last year, and immediately made an impression. And it wasn't like he suddenly turned it on when he was called up to the bigs, either. He had a combined 8-2 record in the minors that year with an ERA a shade over 2.00. He will suffer a few bumps in the road and be inconsistent at times, but he's still learning.

On another note, don't be surprised if Reed Johnson gets traded for some pitching. The Mets are rumoured to be interested in the outfielder.

He will probably play the season in AAA with the Skycheifs but draft pick Brandon Cecil pitched two shutout innings for the Jays and looked very solid.  Look for him in future years.

Don't youguys think it would be a good idea to try and pick up a nice 3 or 4 from somewhere else?  We have a little young talent, but I'm thinking some experience will be helpful as the year goes on.

It would be great to pick up a 3 to 4 talented pitcher. However this would be extremely dificult. You'd be looking at giving up Adam Lind and other prospects for that but even that probobally wouldn't be enough. You would probobally have to give up Rios. Pitchers are hard to come buy you gotta develop your own. If you think Toronto will trade for an extablished starter your kidding yourself.
Go Bluejays

I think they are looking at Randy Wells as #6 right now... considering many teams have 8 starters over the course of the season, that is not real promising, especially with a number two pitcher that may or may not be Carlo Coliacovo's twin (not identical).

I'm a Bosox fan but wanted to chyme in.  In definitely think you have a strong 5 starters.  Few teams can say they have much beyond that in regards to starters, though some do.  Provided there are no major injuries you can stay in the race.  The bigger problem is its tough to get 90 wins with teams when you play Boston and NY so many times, and even 90 wins doesn't gaurantee a wild card.  But you should have a strong season with the starters you have.
