what are all of your expectations for Liriano?

my expecations for him are(that is if he is in the rotation all year or most of the year)-------------- 10-12wins, 3.50-3.80era......anything above this would exceed my expecations, even though it would be hard to watch him look human after seeing him 2 years ago being so dominant as he was...

If he is in the rotation all year, I've got to give him the benefit of the doubt and say a 2.80 to 3.00 ERA, and 15 wins.  He is coming back from an injury, but he was easily the best pitcher in baseball when he got hurt, the way he was playing.  And that is including being better then Johan Santana

Although, in my head I trick myself into thinking he is going to have 32 wins and 1.00 ERA, become the Cy Young and MVP winner, and lead the Twins to the playoffs.  Is that too much to expect?

I am sure this is an unpopular opinion but I think Liriano won't start the year in the rotation. But will be there within the first month of the season. He is still trying to figure out how to pitch again. He will be a different type of pitcher when he comes back. I've read that he really has worked on his changeup and has been struggling to let his slider fly. This won't be bad if he can get his changeup to Santana's level.

Anyways, I am thinking 3.50 to 4.00 ERA with 13-14 wins. Those numbers are realistic and not overly optimistic. I would be extremely surprised if he dominated in his first year back. (But I believe he will eventually get there again)

I agree with hardball202... We cant expect 2006 type results from him.. YET. He will get back to his form within a year or two, he is only 24. I think at the most he will have around the 15 win mark and in the upper 3's for an ERA. Which are good numbers that we will need in the rotation this year. Go Liriano, Go Twins

I read that his changeup is becoming his best K pitch. That should help his elbow a bit

I think he'll get 12-15 wins w/ era mid to high 3s, whether he comes into the rotation after a month or starts there. If he starts in the rotation, his stuff won't be that great, it'll take about a month for him to work out the kinks, making his stats pretty much equal to if he was in the pen for a month or not.

joker, yeah he is 24...and the same stuff was said about Kerry Wood after all his arm problems, etc..... i just hope and pray we arent dealin with a kerry wood type thing...remember when wood came into the big's? just was filthy with his slider and struck out 20 in a game and was just the next big thing...then wham elbow problems due to all those sliders, and he hasnt even been close to being the same pitcher, and cant ever stay healthy......

yeah viking i agree with you, im scared about that too but if he can work on a sweet changeup and mix in the slider and not use it as much maybe he can get back to where he was at...
