Florida is a 2 time defending national champions, with a 21-10 record and a 8-8 conf record, yet you guys will put Arizona in the tournament with a 19-13 record and a 9-10 conf. record. That is why the tournament is becoming a joke. On top of that Memphis plays one actual decent team in Tennesee and gets beat, but good job on defending the so called powerhouses.
I'm not going to dignify most of that nonsense with a response, but why can't you just be happy with how the gators have been playing lately in football and basketball?
We're deciding this year's national champion, not last year's. What you did last year is irrelevant. (And Arizona's record is against the #2 SOS, #8 non-conference SOS; Florida's is #86, with the #275 non-con SOS.)
Dude, your response makes no sense at all. The SEC has not even been that strong this year, so a team who is .500 in the conference doesn't deserve to make it.
"SEC not strong"?, I don't know all the stats about SEC vs non conf teams but I do know that Tennessees only competition this year has been in conference, with only one exception in Texas. Everyone predicted Memphis to destroy the Vols but they under estimated the level of competition in the SEC. Just like in football.
Tennessees only competition this year has been in conference,That is a stat that tells me Tenn is over rated, not that the SEC is better than advertised. Outside of Memphis, which nobody thought they would blow out Tenn, who has Tenn played out of conference? In fact, their only real game I can think of was Texas, which they didn't show up in. Thanks for confirming Tennessee's fraud status.
The way I see it, and I'm neither from the east coast nor have ever lived in Florida or particularly care about their program or the SEC, if you have a winning record (simply more W's than L's) and especially if you've reached or exceeded that traditional magic 20-Win plateau, the defending national champion (yet alone two-time defending national champion) should be invited to the tournament to defend their title.
As said, if your program tanks so much you lose more than you win, it would seem unreasonable to exclude another school.
Florida has had a respectable, winning season and I expect they will get an at-large bid.
If that doesn't make any sense to people, consider that amongst the 64 teams invited this year a least half a dozen schools have no business playing the others aside from an automatic conference champion bid (a great guideline that makes the tournament meaningful, and football needs to embrace). My point is simply that an argument that Florida isn't "that good" doesn't fly in terms of the overall participation. So, given the terms above that the program hasn't completely tanked, being defending national champion ought to get them in.
As well, allowing for whatever seeding occurs, I'd expect the serious possibility that the Gators might play into the second week. Certainly worthy of being invited to defend their title.
If we start handing out spots just based on prior achievements, then we might miss a long-shot team that gives a good run in the Tourney. George Mason. Hardly anyone (Unless you live near it, or have some affiliation with it) knew about this University prior to them making it to the Final Four in 2006. If we had handed out spots based on past occurrences, then George Mason might not have made the tournament, and might not have been able to make their miraculous run to the Final Four. They should use the same criteria for Florida that they use to determine the rest of the Field, without any exceptions. We all know that it's the right thing to do... We've been taught that lesson as kids many times.. "If I make an exception for you, then I have to make an exception for everyone else"... Same Principle, Different Situation... It applies ubiquitously.
Your coach Eddie Munster played the weakest non-conf schedule he could find. That is the reason your team won't show up on the boards Sunday. Also ending the season with 4 straight losses was the final nail Gator!!
There's been a lot of disrespecting Memphis's schedule. Memphis played one of the hardest non conference schedules outside of Texas. Their RPI is ranked third for a reason. Current AP rankings of schools that they beat and difference.
#9 Georgetown by FOURTEEN
#20 Gonzaga by 8
#15 UConn by 11
Plus two wins over possible tournament teams USC and Arizona.
